Chapter 19: The Underground Laboratory
Guided by Buzzcut, the members of Falcon Squad drove deep into the heart of the Wild Mountain. By the time they reached the edge of the Eastern Fourth District, they could make out, through their binoculars, the entrance to the underground city hidden in the mountains.
Suddenly, Brother Long stopped the car and announced that everyone should get out—get some fresh air, relieve themselves, and eat if they were hungry. In short, he wanted everyone in the best possible state before entering the underground city.
After nearly a whole day on the road, exhaustion had set in, so everyone got out of the car. Zhao Nana and the androgynous girl, An An, each found a secluded spot to take care of business. Da Min and Brother Long stayed close to the car, smoking.
“Xiaofeng, weren’t you complaining about being desperate to go? Come on, let’s go pee together!” Brother Long called to Lin Xiaofeng, who was leaning against the front of the car.
“I’ll pass. You guys go ahead. I’ll keep an eye on our stuff!” Lin Xiaofeng really didn’t want to go—he hadn’t drunk much water today, and he had no need.
“Nothing’s going to get stolen! Just get over here!” Da Min shouted as well.
Xiaofeng wasn’t stupid—he could tell there was more to their words, so he quickly joined them. And so, the scene was set: three grown men, standing side by side, urinating down a hillside.
“Xiaofeng, keep a close eye on Buzzcut later,” Brother Long began.
“Back when he fought with the androgynous girl, I thought I saw a mechanical leg. If he really is a cyborg, he’s bound to make a move. Brother Long and I will set a trap and see if he slips up,” Da Min shared his suspicions.
“So you guys called me over just for this? Keeping watch? No problem!” Lin Xiaofeng agreed readily.
And so, the plan was settled, almost offhandedly.
The three returned to the car. Zhao Nana and the androgynous girl had also come back. Including Buzzcut, there were six of them now. They wiped their hands with wet wipes and began preparing dinner. Taking advantage of refueling, Zhang Xingmin hauled out a case of beer. With the distant desert sunset as their backdrop, they drank, setting the stage for their plan.
They wiped their hands again, then dug in. Zhao Nana and the androgynous girl, being women, insisted on not drinking. The men didn’t force them—it wasn’t for them anyway tonight.
Lin Xiaofeng, with his upcoming task, also abstained, using driving duty as his excuse. That left Da Min, Brother Long, and Buzzcut. Buzzcut kept trying to avoid drinking, but tonight’s beer was clearly meant for him—he couldn’t escape.
After several rounds, the three of them were noticeably drunk—some genuinely so, others faking it. But they’d achieved their goal: half the case of beer was now in Buzzcut’s belly, and he had to keep running to the bathroom.
“Come on, let’s go together!” Da Min slurred, his tongue thick.
“No, no, you guys go ahead. I’ll come in a bit!” Buzzcut, of course, wouldn’t join them.
“We’re all men here, what’s to be shy about?” Brother Long feigned drunkenness as well, grabbing Buzzcut by the arm while watching his reaction out of the corner of his eye. Buzzcut remained composed and refused naturally.
Buzzcut persisted in not going with them, so Da Min and Brother Long had no choice but to stagger off together, humming drunkenly. The rest unfolded as planned, now in Xiaofeng’s hands.
As is often the case, a full stomach brings drowsiness. Zhao Nana and the androgynous girl found a blanket in the car and lay down to rest, eyes closed. Lin Xiaofeng, less particular, picked a clean stone and lay on it. Buzzcut feigned fatigue and closed his eyes as well.
With the three seemingly asleep and Brother Long and Da Min still gone, Buzzcut got up—not sneaking, but moving naturally—toward a hillside.
Lin Xiaofeng, of course, wasn’t sleeping. Once Buzzcut was far enough away, he got up and followed at a discreet distance, always keeping him in sight.
Buzzcut weaved through the terrain, apparently feeling safe. He rolled up his trouser leg, activated a microcomputer embedded in his calf, and began transmitting data. It only took three to five minutes. Once done, he put away the device, lowered his trouser leg, looked around to ensure there was no one, then undid his belt, dropped his pants and underwear, squatted, and pressed a remote switch on his wrist—releasing fluid.
From far behind, Lin Xiaofeng saw Buzzcut using the microcomputer on his calf to send information. He couldn’t tell what was sent, but it confirmed their suspicions: Buzzcut was undoubtedly a spy.
Just as he was about to withdraw, he saw something even more astonishing. Adjusting the magnification of his glasses (not prescription, but portable binoculars) and shifting for a better angle, he saw clearly—Buzzcut’s lower body was metallic, confirming he was a cyborg. Lin Xiaofeng recorded the scene with a mini camera as evidence.
Buzzcut, his bladder finally relieved, felt at ease. He looked at the large, odorless puddle on the ground and his slightly splashed trousers, and paused in thought. Then, touching the area where something once was, he muttered, “Damn it, this just feels so weird. I thought I’d found a backer, but I ended up losing everything. Now I can only look at girls and drool.”
While Buzzcut was lost in his melancholy, Lin Xiaofeng slipped back, laying down and feigning sleep before Buzzcut’s return. Time passed with no movement until Da Min and Brother Long returned and woke Xiaofeng.
“Where is he?” Brother Long asked.
“He’s not back? I followed the plan and tailed Buzzcut, got evidence he’s a cyborg. Then, worried he’d notice me, I came back first,” Lin Xiaofeng replied, confused. Had he gotten away?
“Why didn’t you just deal with him? Letting him get away!” Brother Long was furious.
“Forget it! It’s not all Xiaofeng’s fault—we were careless too. The enemy’s lair is right ahead, and we have what we need. Losing one hostage isn’t a big deal. Let’s share the data on the platform and decide our next move,” Da Min consoled.
They sat down and organized the evidence. First, they shared their current location and the enemy’s whereabouts, requesting backup. Second, they uploaded Buzzcut’s intercepted emails, which were password-protected for now, but the Special Operations HQ would have ways to crack them. Third, Lin Xiaofeng’s secret video, along with previous photos from Fuzhou Civic Center, provided clear cyborg-related data—their body structure and behavior.
“This part’s useless, isn’t it?” Lin Xiaofeng said, pointing to the footage of Buzzcut urinating.
“That part?” Brother Long, Da Min, Nana, and An An all gathered to look.
Seeing the video, Da Min quickly said, “Girls, maybe step away for this.”
Brother Long watched, then burst out laughing. “This guy used to compete with me for women—who’d have thought he’d end up like this? Upload it—let those wavering, thinking of joining the dark organization, see what becoming a cyborg really means.”
After uploading the files, knowing their position was compromised, the Falcon Squad quickly set out. The underground city’s entrance was close—though the saying goes that mountains wear out horses, they already had their direction and reached it quickly.
Only at the door did they realize entry might be a problem. They couldn’t very well announce, “We’re here to raid your headquarters.” The androgynous girl shot them a glare and said coldly, “Idiots. Just say you’re here to join the cyborg program.”
“But I don’t want to be a eunuch!” the three men exclaimed in unison.
“I do!” the androgynous girl replied, flicking her hair and sauntering confidently toward the entrance.
“Hello! Please present your identification!” the AI access system prompted.
“Don’t have any!” the androgynous girl snapped.
“Warning! Unauthorized entry detected! Intruder: male, age approximately 25, height 185 cm, identity unknown. Danger level: three!”

“Get lost! What do you mean male? I’m here to become a magical girl! Get your boss out here!” the androgynous girl shouted, kicking the door.
“Warning! Access system under attack!”
“Warning! Access system under attack!”
“Warning! Access system under attack!”
Suddenly, the alarms ceased, the door opened, and a man in a white lab coat emerged. Seeing a tall, cross-dressing young man at the door, he greeted politely, “May I ask what brings this lady here today?”
“Oh! You really know how to talk! And you look so refined! Not like that robot earlier—no sense at all.”
“If the access system offended this beautiful lady, I apologize sincerely. But, dear lady, you must have come for more than an argument with a robot,” the man in the white coat replied courteously.
“Oh, I heard you could turn people into magical girls here, but I didn’t know how to apply, so I just came straight over. You don’t mind, do you?” The androgynous girl suddenly turned serious.
“You’re most welcome! Please, follow me!” The man in the white coat did not turn to lead the way, but continued, “And these friends behind you, will they be joining the program as well?”
