Volume One, Chapter Four: Who Assigned Her to the Ward?

Indeed, Gu Xingnian was lying quietly in bed at this moment. The pale light cast upon her haggard little face—once lively and radiant—now drained of all color. A needle was inserted into her slender wrist, with clear fluid slowly dripping into her body.
His chest felt oddly tight.
Must be gastritis!
He recalled she had always suffered from this ailment and had even been hospitalized for it before.
Back then...
He shook off the chaotic memories swirling in his mind, his gaze settling on her pale lips.
Gu Xingnian on the hospital bed seemed restless in her sleep; her brows knitted slightly as her body twitched unconsciously.
The blanket slipped down a little.
Fu Beichen almost instinctively stepped forward, reaching out to gently pull the blanket up, covering her exposed shoulder.
His fingertips brushed against her skin, cool to the touch.
His movements stiffened for a moment before he quickly withdrew his hand, as if it had touched something unbearably hot.
Only after completing the action did he belatedly realize what he had just done.
A surge of irritation welled up inside him.
He looked around the cramped, ordinary hospital room, the air heavy with the scent of disinfectant. The floor was low, and the noisy sounds from outside the window filtered in.
His brows immediately furrowed deeply.
How could she possibly recover in such an environment?
He swiftly took out his phone and called his assistant, his tone leaving no room for argument.
“Central Hospital, Room 302, Gu Xingnian.”
“Immediately transfer her to the VIP suite on the top floor.”
There was a brief moment of hesitation on the other end, but the assistant dared not question further and quickly replied, “Understood, Mr. Fu.”
Fu Beichen paused, then added, “Order a serving of crab roe soup dumplings and ginkgo porridge from ‘Shiwei Xuan.’ Make sure they’re freshly made.”
Those had been her favorite dishes before.
He didn’t know why he remembered so clearly, nor why he suddenly gave such an order.
Perhaps, he just didn’t want to see her pathetic state.
Yes, it had to be that.
“Deliver them to the VIP suite.”
“Got it, Mr. Fu. Will arrange immediately.”
After hanging up, Fu Beichen glanced once more at Gu Xingnian on the bed; her furrowed brows seemed to relax slightly.
He pressed his lips together, then turned and left without looking back, his steps cold and detached as usual.
Jiang Kexin finished treating her wound, her hand wrapped in a conspicuous bandage, frustration simmering inside her.
Just as she stepped out of the treatment room, she saw Fu Beichen coming out of a ward at the far end of the corridor.
That direction... seemed to be the ordinary ward area?
Her heart skipped a beat, but on her face appeared a perfectly measured gentle smile. She quickly stepped forward and clung to his arm affectionately.
“Brother Beichen, where were you just now? I came out and didn’t see you—scared me.”

She casually glanced at the ward number behind Fu Beichen—302.
Fu Beichen turned his head to look at her, his gaze falling on her bandaged hand. His tone was indifferent: “Nothing. I just went to the wrong floor.”
“The wrong floor?” Jiang Kexin blinked, her voice syrupy sweet, “You’re such a scatterbrain, how could you get lost?”
But inside she sneered. Someone like Fu Beichen could never take a wrong turn.
That Room 302 had to be hiding something!
Fu Beichen ignored her words and merely asked, “Does your hand still hurt? Once it’s treated, I’ll take you home.”
“Mm, it doesn’t hurt much anymore. Thank you, Brother Beichen.” Jiang Kexin nodded obediently, already memorizing the number “302” firmly in her mind.
She wanted to see for herself which siren was hiding there, one who could make Fu Beichen lower himself to come to such a place.
Back at the Jiang family villa, lights blazed brightly.
Jiang’s mother, Wang Huilan, rushed forward exaggeratedly as soon as the two entered.
“Oh my! My precious daughter! What happened to your hand? Let Mom see!”
Wang Huilan grabbed Jiang Kexin’s hand with a pained expression, but her peripheral vision kept darting toward Fu Beichen, her smile full of obsequiousness.
“Mr. Fu, we are so grateful. Kexin has troubled you!”
Jiang’s father chimed in, “Yes, yes, Mr. Fu, you’ve been so thoughtful. Luckily you were here, otherwise who knows what trouble this girl would have gotten into.”
“No problem.” Fu Beichen’s tone was flat, showing no emotion. He instructed Jiang Kexin, “Take your medicine on time and avoid getting your hand wet these days.”
“Okay, I understand. Thank you, Brother Beichen.” Jiang Kexin answered softly.
Fu Beichen nodded, showing no intention to stay longer. “I have business to attend to. I’ll leave now.”
“Mr. Fu, please take care! Come by often!” Wang Huilan warmly saw him off at the door. Only when the Maybach disappeared into the night did her smile vanish, replaced by a sharp, calculating expression.
She suddenly turned to Jiang Kexin, voice firm and commanding, “Kexin, listen carefully!”
“You must hold onto Fu Beichen tightly! Understand? If you can marry into the Fu family and become the richest lady, our Jiang family will rise to power overnight. We won’t have to bow to anyone in Haicheng anymore.”
Wang Huilan’s eyes gleamed with an intense craving for power, as if she already envisioned the Jiang family’s meteoric rise.
“Mom, don’t worry.” Jiang Kexin was confident in herself, especially since she already knew Fu Beichen had someone prepare a divorce agreement.
Fu Beichen... could only be hers!
When Gu Xingnian woke again, night had already fallen.
She was roused by the enticing aroma of food.
Slowly opening her eyes, her head still dizzy, her stomach empty—but the sharp pain inside had lessened significantly.
Her gaze focused on several exquisitely packed insulated food containers on the bedside table.
One bore the logo of ‘Shiwei Xuan.’
Crab roe soup dumplings? Ginkgo porridge?
She was confused—who had sent this?
Her mind instinctively jumped to Sheng Weiwei, but she quickly dismissed the thought, knowing she couldn’t eat those things.
Could it be...
That name flashed across her mind but was quickly crushed.
Impossible!
How could Fu Beichen come to see her? Or bring her food?
He probably wished she’d just disappear.
Stop being deluded, Gu Xingnian.
She bitterly twisted the corner of her mouth.
At that moment, the hospital room door opened, and a nurse in pink uniform walked in, wearing a standard professional smile.
“Miss Gu, you’re awake? How do you feel?”
Gu Xingnian weakly nodded, “Much better, thank you.”
The nurse efficiently checked the IV drip, then smiled at her, “Good timing. We’re going to transfer you to another ward now.”
“Transfer?” Gu Xingnian looked at her in confusion. “Why?”
The nurse smiled even sweeter, “They’ve arranged for you to move to a VIP suite upstairs. The environment is better and quieter, perfect for your recovery.”
“A VIP suite?” Gu Xingnian was utterly stunned, her voice tinged with uncertainty. “Who... who arranged this?”
What was going on?
Could a hospital stay really be upgraded just like that? Ridiculous!
The nurse’s smile didn’t falter, but her tone held a hint of matter-of-factness. “We don’t know the details. It was a direct order from above. Don’t worry, the paperwork is done. Just follow me.”
Gu Xingnian lay back on the bed, staring at the nurse’s expression that seemed to say everything without words. Her mind grew even more confused.
First, the inexplicable crab roe soup dumplings and ginkgo porridge on her bedside.
Now this sudden upgrade to a VIP suite.
What on earth was happening?
Just then, Sheng Weiwei entered, carrying soup and a bouquet of flowers.
“Xingnian, are you feeling better now? Hungry? Mom brought you some nourishing chicken soup.”
She glanced at the takeout boxes on the table. “Shiwei Xuan? When did they start delivery?”
Gu Xingnian was just as puzzled. “I don’t know who sent these.”
Sheng Weiwei gave her a flirtatious wink. “Looks like you’ve got a secret admirer. I told you, there are plenty of fish in the sea—why pine after that scumbag?”
Elsewhere, Fu Beichen suddenly sneezed.
Sheng Weiwei suddenly remembered something important. Sitting beside the bed, she said, “You’re not discharged yet, how come you announced your comeback?”
Gu Xingnian looked even more baffled. “Comeback?”
Sheng Weiwei pulled out her phone to show her the top five trending topics—all discussing ‘God N’—a figure that had taken the world by storm in just a few hours by attending a summit.
Gu Xingnian’s heart tightened. Only two people in the world would dare announce such news so boldly.
It was him!
Their three-year agreement had only just ended.
That madman couldn’t wait even a single day!
