Chapter 19: Even Lighting a Gas Cylinder Blows You to the Sky!
Outside the studio door.
Hearing the bursts of laughter from inside, Wang Yongchang hesitated for a moment about whether to enter.
But after a brief pause, he knocked and stepped inside.
“Acen, what’s so funny?”
“Ahaha, President Wang, let me tell you...” Lin Feng was laughing uncontrollably, explaining to Wang Yongchang between fits of laughter.
“Alright, enough laughing for now. There’s even more to laugh about later.”
Wang Yongchang smiled, signaling Li Can and Lin Feng to calm down a bit.
He then took out a stack of documents and handed them to Li Can with a cheerful expression.
“Acen, we’ve all witnessed your success this time. After a meeting with senior management, everyone agreed to grant you greater autonomy.”
“Originally, we planned to hire a few more people to fill the studio’s staff positions, but after careful consideration, we decided to leave that decision to you. You can choose the candidates for these positions. If you don’t know anyone suitable, you can select a few satisfactory ones from the next batch of interviews.”
Li Can took the documents.
Lin Feng was a bit surprised but, upon reflection, felt this was only natural.
Since he had proven his value, it was common to grant certain freedoms.
In other words, although the studio still belonged to Xingmei Entertainment, the company would no longer interfere in its management. Li Can had decisive authority and could independently arrange projects assigned by the company moving forward.
This level of trust was extraordinary in the entire entertainment industry.
From the company’s perspective, this arrangement was actually the best choice.
Letting Li Can operate freely only meant paying a basic salary, equipment depreciation, and some welfare expenses.
As for the staff... rather than it being a favor, the company also hoped Li Can would bring in some of his classmates.
Those who could keep up with a genius were hardly weaklings; even if there were a few, the benefits Li Can brought far outweighed the cost of hiring one or two more. It wasn’t a bad idea to strengthen relationships this way.
To the company, Li Can was like an in-game item that automatically generated resources—why interfere when he could generate gold coins on his own?
“The profit sharing for the works will remain as previously agreed. Chen Meijing still needs to produce a certain amount of works. The company will screen some, but as supplementary to her albums, you’ll be responsible for the lead singles and B-sides.”
“Understood.”
Li Can nodded. This was precisely the time he needed to produce a large volume of work.
In just three years, he could steadily take off with the company’s resources.
Chen Meijing’s existing popularity was too valuable to waste.
“Now, on to new matters.”
Wang Yongchang smiled slightly.
“Your KPI assessment has already been met ahead of schedule, and quite perfectly. Chen Meijing’s sudden rise has brought considerable profit to the company. According to our previous bet, the company can grant you one B-level promotion as a reward.”
As he spoke, Wang Yongchang lightly patted Li Can’s shoulder.
“Now, Brother Can, you can start thinking about who to promote and which song to push.”
---
Li Can knew well about the effectiveness of B-level promotions.
To get one so soon without hesitation was a rare boon.
“No need to think twice. I promised Brother Feng to compose songs for him and his goddess. The candidates are those two; I’ll start working on the songs first.”
Without a hint of hesitation, Li Can spoke decisively.
Even Lin Feng beside him was momentarily stunned, then deeply moved.
But the next second, that brotherly sentiment was shattered by Li Can’s own words.
“After all, I’m an animal rights advocate—caring for loyal fans is everyone’s responsibility.”
“Li Can, you’re unbelievable!” Wang Yongchang’s face darkened with disbelief.
Li Can and Lin Feng began a rapid exchange of playful punches, their fists pairing off, furiously tapping each other in a fast-paced game.
“As for whether it’ll be a duet or a solo, that’s something to discuss. This is a rare chance—let’s study it first... Brother Feng, if you keep messing around, I’ll compose an anthem for your funeral!”
“Alright, no more tapping,” Lin Feng chuckled and sat properly, embodying the posture of a true gentleman.
“Alright!”
Wang Yongchang twitched at the corner of his eye but nodded in agreement.
“Oh, there’s one more thing I must tell you. This isn’t part of the business metrics.”
“Hm?”
Li Can and Lin Feng stopped their play and looked up at Wang Yongchang.
Wang Yongchang began to explain.
“In recent years, mainland entertainment companies have been studying the Korean idol commercial model and adapting it to local market preferences. All entertainment companies now believe that mainland idol dramas hold great promise. Naturally, our company wants to compete as well.”
“However, no one wants to go it alone at the start. There’s a multi-party joint venture drama project you can try for the theme song. The company wants to get as many stakes as possible, but after securing some benefits, some positions are tricky to intervene in openly.”
“If you manage to get in on your own merits, no one will complain. It benefits the work and everyone profits. You can also leverage the drama’s promotion to boost your own value. After all, no one wants to let outsiders reap the rewards.”
At this, Wang Yongchang smiled mysteriously.
After a brief pause, he continued.
“The drama’s promotion rank... is S!”
Li Can didn’t laugh immediately but frowned and asked.
“Can I arrange the singers myself? No one else cuts in line?”
Wang Yongchang nodded.
“Since it’s a joint venture, the song submissions are open to industry insiders. No one has the nerve to demand it outright; singers bring their own songs to compete. The director has the final say, but the producers will review the selected ones.”
“Holy hell!!” Li Can finally got excited.
---
Although the S-level promotion applies to the entire drama, the theme song alone might not reach S.
But whether during the drama’s promotion or around its release, the theme song’s presence is very strong. Just the exposure of the song would at least be grade A.
With such a promotion level, the song could easily take off.
“Brother Feng, did you hear that? If we win the competition, S-level resources... you and your goddess might become famous!”
“Me? Could it really be about us?!” Lin Feng was delighted and flustered.
“Is it really skipping all the steps and going straight to fame?”
“Of course! With me around, even lighting a gas tank has to guarantee you’ll blow up into the sky!”
“Damn, Acen, you’re ruthless! Absolutely explosive.”
“Definitely! Let’s go all in.”
The two brothers went wild again, their madness sudden and inexplicable.
But it was obvious: Li Can was leading the rhythm and Lin Feng was following suit.
Wang Yongchang really wished these two would tone it down.
“Alright, you handle the studio staffing yourself. I’m heading back now. If you have any issues, come find me on the 18th floor.”
Wang Yongchang just wanted to leave quickly; his footsteps didn’t falter once after stepping outside.
As Wang Yongchang left, Li Can took a deep breath.
Everything else could wait for now.
The temptation of that S-level drama was simply too great.
Though the song alone might not qualify for S-level promotion,
he still had the chance of a B-level promotion for the singer.
If he really won the competition and combined it with his B-level promotion, the impact would be transformative!
It was like the roar of a golden tree igniting a blazing summer fire!
It absolutely had to be secured!
Thinking this, Li Can silently repeated to himself.
“Ai!”
[“I’m here.”]
“Give me a new task!”
[“The big data system is analyzing and organizing for you...”]
