Chapter 19: The Truth Revealed!
Page 1/3
Ye Yue listened to Yun Xiao’s report, her eyelids twitching uncontrollably. What kind of twisted mindset must this youth possess to do something so self-destructive and harmful to others?
“Keep tailing him. Find out who this boy really is. We’ve finally caught a lead; there’s no way we’re letting him slip away now.”
“Chen Hua has approached him twice already; she must have some agenda. If we keep a close watch on him, we’re bound to uncover something.”
Wu Yunqing and Yun Xiao were getting nervous. Who knew what heinous acts that “helpful citizen” might commit next? Forget about Chen Hua—they both wanted to drag Ren Jie in and give him a good thrashing.
But duty called, so they had no choice but to continue the surveillance. If Chen Hua couldn’t catch him, surely finding Ren Jie wouldn’t be difficult?
Under the watchful eyes of the third squad, Ren Jie’s master began the busiest day of the ultimate laborer.
At another square, a group of elderly ladies were dancing to loud music at the basketball court. Ren Jie strolled over with hands in his pockets. A few young men playing basketball saw him and, as if seeing a savior, quickly surrounded him, handing over two hundred yuan.
Ren Jie raised an eyebrow. “The usual? Two hundred yuan, and I’ll only curse for half an hour.”
The young men eagerly massaged his shoulders and backs, even offering him water.
“Brother Jie, we’re all counting on you today!”
Ren Jie skillfully pulled a megaphone from his backpack, climbed onto a speaker, and began hurling a barrage of obscene insults at the dancing ladies.
The grandmas, seeing this brat again, were ready. They had practiced well at home; if they couldn’t outcurse him today, they might as well give up.
“Sisters, let’s get him! Curse this little punk to death!”
The ladies stopped dancing and encircled Ren Jie, pointing and hurling insults with intense fervor, even employing the “retreat, retreat” technique.
Unfazed, Ren Jie stood on the moral high ground and engaged in a verbal war, spitting fly saliva everywhere.
Ye Yue and company were dumbfounded. What kind of work was this kid doing? A professional quarrel artist? Were those young men paying him just to argue?
Half an hour later, the grandmas packed up their speaker, wiping tears away, while the young men resumed their basketball game. Ren Jie stood with hands in pockets, seemingly without an equal.
Then Ren Jie transformed into a green frog mascot, posing for photos and selling “sons” in the shopping street—five yuan per photo, and thirty-one “sons” available.
He also took on a dozen dog-walking gigs.
A green frog mascot walking a dozen dogs in the shopping street was quite the sight and very popular.
Not only that, he distributed flyers for extra cash.
After finishing this part-time job, Ren Jie queued up for others at a scenic spot, playing a mobile game to earn money while waiting.
He then took on local errands, running around while snapping photos of illegally parked cars to report to the traffic police, earning thirty yuan per car.
Watching this day unfold, Ye Yue and the others were stunned. What kind of supernatural being was this?
Page 2/3
How many part-time jobs did he do in one day? He never rested, and all his jobs were highly profitable, legal but morally dubious.
He must have made at least a thousand yuan that day.
Yun Xiao twitched her mouth. “Doesn’t he ever get tired?”
Ye Yue frowned as she examined Ren Jie’s profile, her gaze complicated. Perhaps she was beginning to understand why Ren Jie worked so hard to make money.
Chen Hua hadn’t given up on tailing Ren Jie either. But that day, he only went to crowded places.
With the Demon Suppression Division keeping close watch, she never found a chance to strike.
They absolutely could not let this boy fall into the hands of the Demon Suppression Division—that would be disastrous!
Just as Chen Hua was plotting how to make her move, a message came from above.
Brother Dao: “How’s it going? Got him yet?”
Chen Hua ground her teeth in frustration. “Not yet, but we’ve uncovered his background. The strongest laborer in District 69, the prince of part-time jobs!”
“The Demon Suppression Division is watching him too. If we don’t get him this time, we won’t have another chance.”
“I’ve come up with a way to capture him, but I’ll need your cooperation…”
Brother Dao paused. “You mean…”
Chen Hua’s expression turned savage.
“Anyone trying to steal from me will pay the price!”
…
At 10 p.m., inside Happy Bar, Ren Jie—wearing a white shirt, suspenders, and a black bow tie—stood elegantly behind the counter, mixing drinks.
Many older women came here just to see Ren Jie.
About to finish his bartender shift, Ren Jie checked his phone for messages, looking for a better part-time job.
If none appeared, he’d have to visit Aunt Zhou’s place and cook more meals for her two kids.
Just then, a trendy woman with a designer bag, clearly drunk, approached the front desk and slammed her car keys down.
“Hey, young man—need a designated driver? Chemical Plant Residential Area?”
Ren Jie hesitated. “Chemical Plant? That’s too far. Going back and forth wastes too much time. Miss, you should…”
But the woman slapped a thousand yuan on the counter.
“Will you take it or not? I just want you to drive me home.”
Ren Jie’s eyes lit up at the sight of the big bill. Pocketing the money, he stepped forward to steady the woman.
“It’s dark out and Jin City is dangerous. I can’t trust anyone else to take you home. Bibi Daijia (Designated Driver Service), at your service!”
With that, he helped the woman into a BMW Mini outside the bar and set off.
The other women watching gritted their teeth in jealousy. Clearly, tonight’s bartender was the wealthy woman’s favorite.
The car drove farther and farther, eventually reaching the sparsely populated Chemical Plant area…

Inside the car, the trendy woman lounged in the passenger seat, kicked off her shoes, her dress collar pulled low, revealing slender, snow-white arms fanning herself.
“Ugh, it’s so hot.”
“Hey, young man, I’m about to burst from the heat. What do you suggest we do?”
As she spoke, she laid her hand on Ren Jie’s thigh.
Ren Jie kept his eyes forward. “If you’re hot, just turn on the air conditioning.”
“Are you always this unromantic?”
The woman rolled her eyes at him with all the charm she could muster.
Ren Jie ignored her.
“By the way, are you sure this is the right direction? It’s so desolate. Do you really live here?”
The car had stopped outside an abandoned chemical plant. The massive factory was decrepit, shrouded in darkness, its outline barely visible—like a beast lurking to devour.
The woman giggled. “Just stop here, young man. You know what I mean, right?”
“Out here in the wild, just you and me… what do you think I mean?”
She leaned in, pressing her upper body against him, licking her lips, gazing intently at Ren Jie.
Ren Jie silently unbuckled his seatbelt, maintaining his smile.
“Miss, I only do honest work. I can’t help with unclogging sewers, but I know some professionals and can introduce you.”
The woman twitched her lips in disbelief. “Unclogging sewers?”
But she smiled even wider, touching Ren Jie’s cheek tenderly, eyes full of affection, and leaned in to kiss him.
“The more you act like this, the more I want to devour you.”
Ren Jie scowled. That thousand yuan was not going to be an easy earn.
He resolved that if she dared kiss him, he’d set himself on fire—he’d burn so badly she’d bubble like boiling water. She had no idea what a passionate young man was.
Just as her lips neared his, at the very moment before contact, her entire face suddenly split into eight parts. The skin peeled back, revealing raw, crimson flesh beneath!
Her face stretched wide open like a blooming flower, lunging toward Ren Jie’s head!
“Like this, I’ll devour you bite by bite!”
Ren Jie’s eyes bulged, his face drained of color.
What the hell was going on?
