Lin Haoran merely smiled and did not argue when his father expressed doubt about his ability to win the competition. There was simply no need. After a lengthy conversation with Lin Wan’an in the office, Lin Haoran prepared to leave.

“Haoran, why don’t you stay home tonight? Your mother misses you,” Lin Wan’an suddenly said.

“All right, Dad, I understand,” Lin Haoran replied with a smile and nodded, then left the office with a light step.

Originally, he had planned to stay near Central tonight since the Hong Kong Securities Exchange was nearby, making it convenient for him to keep track of the stock market. However, since his father had suggested it, he gladly accepted the arrangement and decided to spend the evening with his family.

After leaving the chairman’s office, Lin Haoran did not leave the Wan’an Group building immediately. Instead, he took the elevator to the sixth floor.

He was thoroughly familiar with the locations of the various departments in the building.

The Group’s Securities Business Department was located on the sixth floor.

As a listed company, Wan’an Group had established the Securities Business Department at the time of its IPO. This department managed the company’s securities buying, selling, holding, and settlement affairs, including handling shareholders’ dividends and profit distribution after issuance.

Upon entering the Securities Business Department’s office, he saw the staff busily at work.

Lin Haoran went straight to the minister’s office.

The head of the Securities Business Department was Dai Bin, a middle-aged man in his forties.

Seeing Lin Haoran enter, Dai Bin put down his work and smiled. “Young master, what brings you here with so much free time?”

Within Wan’an Group, junior employees liked to call Lin Haoran “Director Lin,” while senior executives preferred to address him as “Young Master.”

Lin Haoran, naturally at ease, sat down and said to Dai Bin, “Minister Dai, I’ve come to discuss a personal matter.”

“Please, young master, tell me. Whatever I can do for you, I will,” Dai Bin said, curious.

A personal matter?

Lin Wan’an had not disclosed the selection of his successor, not even to the management team at Wan’an Group. So everyone at the company treated him well.

“Minister Dai, may I ask if there are any stock traders in our Securities Business Department facing family difficulties?” Lin Haoran inquired.

“Family difficulties? Now that you mention it, I recall a colleague named Su Zhixue, who has been with us for five years. He’s a good young man, but unfortunately, his two-year-old son was diagnosed with a rare disease requiring surgery that costs over a hundred thousand Hong Kong dollars.

“When we learned of this, I organized a fundraiser among the department staff. But honestly, compared to the hefty medical bill, the donations were just a drop in the ocean, far from enough.

“Su’s monthly salary is just over four thousand Hong Kong dollars, and his wife had to quit her job to care for their sick son full-time. The financial pressure on the family is immense.

“Even if they scrimp and save, they can barely put aside anything each year—raising that hundred-thousand-dollar sum is nearly impossible,” Minister Dai sighed as he explained the situation in detail.

Earning just over four thousand Hong Kong dollars a month was quite decent in Hong Kong. But considering he was the sole breadwinner, with daily expenses and medical bills, saving even a thousand or two monthly was difficult.

The surgery fee of over a hundred thousand Hong Kong dollars was undoubtedly a crushing burden for a family like his.

As Lin Haoran listened to Minister Dai recount his colleague’s plight, a glimmer of light sparked in his eyes.

Is this not exactly the person he was looking for?

“How is Su Zhixue’s character and work performance?” Lin Haoran asked further.

“Su is of impeccable character, well-regarded by his colleagues, and conscientious in his work. He used to be cheerful and optimistic, but this sudden family crisis has weighed heavily on him, making him more reserved and withdrawn,” Minister Dai said with sympathy.

“How is his stock trading skill?”

“His trading skills are solid; otherwise, he wouldn’t be with our group. After five years, he’s gained plenty of experience. I was even planning to promote him soon,” Dai Bin smiled.

“Please call Su Zhixue over. I want to have a word with him,” Lin Haoran said directly.

“All right, young master, please wait a moment,” Dai Bin agreed without hesitation.

Soon, Lin Haoran met the stock trader named Su Zhixue.

Though Su was not yet thirty, Lin Haoran sensed a faint weariness on his face, as if he had lived many more years.

He must have been through a great deal lately.

“Director Lin, you wanted to see me?” Su Zhixue asked nervously.

Su did not know Lin personally, but everyone at Wan’an Group knew Lin Haoran—the youngest son of the boss.

“Come with me. I have something to discuss,” Lin Haoran said, leading Su to an empty office.

Once inside, Su shifted anxiously in his seat. Despite Lin Haoran being much younger, he was an important figure far above Su’s station.

Seeing this, Lin Haoran gently said, “Don’t be nervous. Please sit and relax.”

“I heard your son urgently needs surgery, costing over a hundred thousand, is that right?” Lin Haoran asked with concern.

“Yes, Director Lin,” Su answered cautiously. “The attending physician said surgery is necessary to control the condition, and the total cost is 180,000 Hong Kong dollars. The sooner the operation, the better the chance of recovery. I’m doing everything I can to raise the funds so my son can receive treatment quickly.”

Though puzzled by why Lin Haoran suddenly brought this up, Su tried to stay composed and answered truthfully.

“How much do you still need?”

“After exhausting all means, I’m still short over 120,000,” Su admitted, his face clouded with despair.

Lin Haoran smiled warmly and sincerely said, “I can lend you the money for your son’s surgery. The condition is you work for me privately. I will pay you 5,000 Hong Kong dollars a month, with weekends off. If you perform well, there will be room for promotion.

“Once you’ve fully repaid the loan, you’ll be free with no more obligations. As for your position at the Group, don’t worry—I’ll speak to my father to ensure your job remains secure. If you want to come back to work here after repaying the debt, you’re always welcome.”

Lin Haoran’s words were like warm sunlight breaking through clouds, illuminating the shadow over Su’s heart.

Overcome with emotion, tears of gratitude welled in Su’s eyes. Unable to contain himself, he knelt and said with a trembling voice, “Director Lin, your great kindness is beyond repayment. If you lend me the surgery funds and give me a chance to save my son, I will serve you faithfully for life, no matter how hard or exhausting the work—I will never back down!”

For a grown man to shed tears for his child was not a sign of weakness but of profound respect.

From this, Lin Haoran came to truly believe in Su Zhixue’s character.

When Su agreed to work for Lin Haoran, his loyalty meter lit up:
