Chapter 28: The Century-Old Ginseng King, Learning the Truth
"Who are you? How dare you interfere in the affairs of our Great Kun Kingdom ninjas?"
Kenichi Yoshino stared fixedly at Jiang Chen, pointing his katana at him and barking the question.
Jiang Chen hurried to Ye Qingchan’s side and crouched down. Seeing her hands covered in blood, with deep, bleeding wounds on her left chest and right shoulder, and even more blood pooling from her back as she lay on the ground, his fury erupted instantly. His murderous intent soared to the heavens!
Ye Qingchan was the first woman he had ever been with, which instilled in him a sense of responsibility and a desire to cherish her. That was the very reason he had spoken of breaking his engagement to marry her.
But now, his woman had been wounded so severely, falling into a coma from blood loss and teetering on the brink of death. No matter who they were, he would make them pay with their lives!
With lightning speed, he pressed her acupoints to stop the bleeding and channeled his internal energy into her body to heal her wounds.
"Everyone, attack together! Kill him with all your might!"
Seeing Jiang Chen busy healing Ye Qingchan, Kenichi Yoshino realized this was a golden opportunity to strike. He roared, waving his katana to order the assault.
*Swish! Swish! Swish!*
Yoshino led the remaining dozen or so ninjas in a simultaneous strike against Jiang Chen. The blades unleashed a flurry of sword energy, engulfing both Jiang Chen and Ye Qingchan.
"Boom! Roar!"
Jiang Chen stood up slowly, his internal energy surging forth like a wild dragon rising from the sea. He threw a punch, manifesting a dragon shadow accompanied by a faint, resonant roar.
Before the terrified eyes of Yoshino and his ninjas, the unstoppable dragon shadow tore through their sword energy with claw and fang, blotting out the sky as it descended to annihilate them.
*Bang! Bang! Bang! Plop! Plop! Plop!*
Wherever the dragon shadow passed, bodies exploded into bloody mist, and katanas were ground into fine powder. Even the ground was blasted into a deep crater.
Not only were they denied a corpse to bury, but they were also left without a place to rest in death!
Jiang Chen picked up Ye Qingchan and turned to leave at high speed. Although he had staunched her bleeding and treated her, she had lost too much blood and needed an immediate transfusion or replenishment, or she would still be in mortal danger.
*Screech!*
Linghu Xin drove up near the abandoned factory. Seeing Jiang Chen returning with the injured, blood-stained Ye Qingchan, she slammed on the brakes right in front of them.
Before the car had even come to a full stop, Cao Moling had already opened the rear door and rushed out.
"Mr. Jiang, how is Qingchan?" Cao Moling asked, her face full of worry.
"She is severely injured and has lost too much blood. We need to get to a hospital for a transfusion immediately!" Jiang Chen’s expression was grave as he carried Ye Qingchan into the backseat.
"Xin'er, turn around, quickly! To the hospital!" Cao Moling sat in the passenger seat and urged Linghu Xin.
She felt incredibly fortunate that she had invited Jiang Chen to help. When he had sensed the commotion of the martial arts masters fighting, he had jumped out of the car first and rushed ahead at full speed to save Ye Qingchan.
If Jiang Chen hadn't come with them, or if he had arrived even a moment later, Ye Qingchan might already be gone.
"Mr. Jiang, what about those ninjas from the Kun Kingdom?" Cao Moling couldn't help but ask.
"I killed them," Jiang Chen replied coldly.
"Good riddance!" Cao Moling clenched her fists, feeling a sense of deep satisfaction. She had never liked people from the Kun Kingdom to begin with, and with Ye Qingchan so badly hurt by their ninjas, she wished she could have killed them herself.
After Linghu Xin drove away, the martial arts masters and experts of the Linghu Sect arrived at the abandoned factory to process the scene. They found Wei Hongyi still alive and sent him to the hospital as well.
At the Linzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, the closest facility to the factory, Jiang Chen watched as Ye Qingchan finished her transfusion and was declared out of danger. Only then did he ask Cao Moling, "Sect Leader Cao, do you know where I might find a century-old ginseng king in Linzhou?"
To help Ye Qingchan recover more quickly and effectively, and to boost her strength, he needed a century-old ginseng king as a medicinal catalyst. The sooner it was administered, the better.
Last time, Ye Qingchan had helped him harmonize his yin and yang to break his seal and reach his peak; this time, it was his turn to help her grow stronger, lest her weakness lead to her being hurt again.
"A century-old ginseng king?" Cao Moling pondered for a moment, then her eyes lit up. "I remember now. At a small auction a while ago, a century-old ginseng king appeared and was sold for five million!"
"Who bought it?" Jiang Chen asked immediately.
"Liang Wenbin, the young master of the Liang family," Cao Moling replied, then suggested, "The Liang family is second only to the five major families in Linzhou, but they still have to show respect to the Linghu Sect. I will go to the Liang family now and buy the ginseng king for you!"
"No need to trouble yourself. You are injured and just had your wounds redressed. I will go to the Liang family myself. If the Liang family has already used it, I will find another way." Jiang Chen waved his hand, concerned for Cao Moling’s condition and mindful of the uncertainty regarding the ginseng.
Just as Jiang Chen left the hospital to head to the Liang family, Ye Qingchan woke up from her coma.
"Qingchan, how are you feeling?" Cao Moling asked, sitting by the bedside.
"Aunt? You saved me!" Ye Qingchan saw Cao Moling and assumed she was the one.
"It wasn't me," Cao Moling shook her head and explained, "It was Mr. Jiang who saved you. Even my life was saved by Mr. Jiang."
"Mr. Jiang? Aunt, what is going on?" Ye Qingchan asked, sitting up in confusion.
Cao Moling helped her settle and comforted her, saying, "Don't get excited; let me tell you slowly." She then recounted how the leader of the Bloodscale Mercenary Group had tried to kill her, how Jiang Chen had rescued her, and how she had asked him to save Ye Qingchan at the factory.
"Mr. Jiang is a high-level martial arts master who is also a master of medicine? He not only saved my life but also treated my wounds—he has saved me twice now!" After hearing this, Ye Qingchan was both shocked and grateful. "Aunt, where is Mr. Jiang? I want to thank him personally for saving my life!"
"Mr. Jiang went to buy a century-old ginseng king to ensure your recovery is complete," Cao Moling replied truthfully. She was almost envious of how well Jiang Chen treated Ye Qingchan.
Ye Qingchan was flattered and overwhelmed. What had she done to deserve such care from a high-level master and miracle doctor?
"Qingchan, I suspect Mr. Jiang might be in love with you," Cao Moling speculated. Jiang Chen had no reason to be this good to her otherwise.
"Ah? No way! I don't even know Mr. Jiang!" Ye Qingchan blushed.
"Love at first sight is possible. After all, you have always been outstanding, both in appearance and strength," Cao Moling analyzed. "Mr. Jiang must have first noticed you at the Lin Capital Heaven Pavilion. It was he who killed the martial arts master ninja who attacked you, not Wei Hongyi. He even recovered your photo from that master and has been carrying it with him!"
"What?!" Ye Qingchan was shocked once more, and a sudden realization dawned on her.
No wonder the strength Wei Hongyi displayed when facing Yoshino was so far from the terrifying lethality required to kill a martial arts master at the Heaven Pavilion; he was actually weaker than she was!
She asked, "What about Wei Hongyi?"
"He's in the ward next door; his injuries are much lighter than yours!" Cao Moling grew angry at the mention of him. "Not only did he lie to you, he couldn't even protect you. He isn't worthy of you at all!"
Ye Qingchan was also deeply disappointed in Wei Hongyi. Forget about protecting her; she had been the one to save his life, and in doing so, she had been slashed in the back—she had nearly died because of it!
"Qingchan, Mr. Jiang is absolutely the most outstanding young man I have ever met. He is about your age, very handsome, and most importantly, his character is impeccable. You must seize this opportunity!" Cao Moling encouraged her. If she couldn't have him as a son-in-law, having him as her sister's son-in-law was just as good; they were all family anyway.
"Aunt, do you have a photo of him?" Ye Qingchan whispered, deeply curious about what this Mr. Jiang looked like.
