Chapter 9: Publicly Acknowledging Their Relationship
The staff wore anxious expressions and even moved the camera to a distance, avoiding filming Yuzhi Cheng and Yu Danxue.
Qi Kang and Luo Jian, noticing this, stepped aside and waited.
“What’s going on?” Yuzhi Cheng asked calmly.
The staff lowered his voice with urgency. “Mr. Yu, here’s the situation: a marketing account leaked online claiming this young lady is your child and accusing you of a secret marriage.”
“That wouldn’t have been a big deal at first, but the problem is that the production team you’re with learned about these rumors, and without confirming or consulting you, they announced your dismissal and demanded compensation for damages.”
He handed their phones to Yuzhi Cheng and Yu Danxue. “These calls were from your agent, Brother Liu.”
“Brother Liu asked Mr. Yu to return his call so they can decide on the next steps.”
Yuzhi Cheng remained unflustered after hearing this, calmly responding with a simple “Thank you.”
“Tell the director that this matter won’t affect the variety show,” the staff said before leaving.
“Xiaosheng, do you want me to help?” Yu Danxue looked up at Yuzhi Cheng, her face flushed with anger.
“These people are terrible, spreading nonsense without checking facts and messing with our relationship,” she said.
Yuzhi Cheng stroked her head, unfazed. “Little Auntie, don’t get angry. They just want to see us upset.”
“You have to understand, there are always people in this world who can’t stand seeing others succeed. They can’t do anything in real life, so they vent their frustration online.”
Yu Danxue had learned some of this; her parents had told her that no matter how well she did, some people would always dislike her.
It wasn’t her fault—it was those people’s wickedness.
“Xiaosheng, let’s just make our relationship public. That’s the best way,” she said.
Yuzhi Cheng gestured for her to wait a moment.
He first sent a message to Brother Liu, telling him and the company to stand down and that he would handle the matter himself.
Next, he called the legal team at Yu Corporation, instructing them to gather all evidence promptly and proceed with legal action against the troublemakers, especially the production team.
Originally, the director was dissatisfied with Yuzhi Cheng as the male lead and wanted to replace him with his preferred actor, but the investors disagreed.
During filming, the director had made things difficult for Yuzhi Cheng and repeatedly tried to give more screen time to the third male lead, nearly angering the investors.
Now that the director dared to act like this, Yuzhi Cheng intended to make him understand the consequences.
After making these arrangements, he picked up his phone to review the online rumors.
A marketing account had posted screenshots from the variety show featuring him and Little Auntie, claiming their resemblance proved he secretly married and had a child.
The comments beneath were filled with insults directed at him and even at Little Auntie.
He sneered inwardly—insulting him was one thing, but insulting Little Auntie was unacceptable.
“Xiaosheng, there are so many people cursing you. They’re way out of line!” Yu Danxue, who had learned to use a phone, had already seen the posts.
The young girl’s face flushed red with anger, looking ready to fight. “Xiaosheng, I want to bite them all.”
“Pfft!”
Yuzhi Cheng couldn’t help but laugh aloud.
This made her glare at him in a mock-scolding way. “Xiaosheng, you’re so mean. I’m angry for you, and you’re just laughing.”
He hurriedly crouched down, soothing her patiently. “Little Auntie, I’m not laughing at you. You’re just too adorable.”
“With such a cute Little Auntie, who wouldn’t like you?”
Yu Danxue put her hands on her hips and raised her chin proudly. “I admit you know how to talk.”
Yuzhi Cheng smiled warmly. “If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to comfort Little Auntie.”
“If I can’t comfort Little Auntie, my dad will hit me. And I don’t want that.”
Yu Danxue stood on tiptoe and gently patted his head, like a seasoned elder. “Xiaosheng, don’t worry. Little Auntie will protect you.”
“If Xiao Zheng dares to hit you without reason, I’ll deal with him.”
Yuzhi Cheng suddenly looked forward to that scene—seeing his dad getting beaten by Little Auntie would be quite a sight.
“Xiaosheng, about this... oh yes, the ‘leak,’ how do you plan to handle it?” Yu Danxue didn’t forget the matter at hand.
Yuzhi Cheng’s smile faded slightly, and a cold gleam flashed in his eyes. “I’ve already entrusted the company’s legal team to deal with it.”
“We just need to wait,” Yu Danxue said. “Xiaosheng, let’s reveal our true relationship publicly. Don’t listen to the director—keep it as a talking point.”
If the director hadn’t insisted on keeping their real relationship under wraps for now, these troubles wouldn’t have happened.
Yuzhi Cheng didn’t blame the director; his approach wasn’t wrong. Revealing their true relationship at the right moment would greatly boost the variety show’s ratings.
“Alright, let’s do as Little Auntie says.”
He took Yu Danxue to see the director and discussed it with him.
Soon, Yuzhi Cheng and Yu Danxue’s live stream resumed.
Over a hundred thousand viewers flooded in, nearly causing the stream to lag.
“Is this little girl really Yuzhi Cheng’s daughter? How long has Yuzhi Cheng been secretly married?”
“Yuzhi Cheng is such a scoundrel—a secret marriage and then pretending a relative’s child is on the show, but not admitting she’s his daughter.”
“Yuzhi Cheng should quit the entertainment industry and stop ruining it.”
Neither Yuzhi Cheng nor Yu Danxue saw the barrage of comments, but Yuzhi Cheng sensed the hidden schadenfreude of Gao Pengfei, who had just returned, and Duan Lele’s intent to stir up trouble.
“Need some help?” Qi Kang approached and patted Yuzhi Cheng’s shoulder. “I can help a bit.”
“Me too!” Luo Jian raised both hands earnestly. “I don’t believe Anning is Brother Yu’s daughter.”
“Because Brother Yu couldn’t have produced such a beautiful and well-behaved Anning.”
Yuzhi Cheng was speechless.
Thanks a lot!
Yu Danxue nodded vigorously and gave Luo Jian a thumbs-up. “You’re absolutely right.”
The noisy chat turned to laughter.
“Just seeing Yuzhi Cheng’s expression makes me want to laugh. Luo Jian is so blunt.”
“I agree, Yuzhi Cheng couldn’t have a daughter as pretty and well-mannered as this little girl. Their interaction seems unusual.”
“I don’t think they’re father and daughter—maybe they’re relatives?”
“Let me reintroduce them,” Yuzhi Cheng said, not taking Luo Jian’s words seriously.
Facing the camera, he solemnly introduced Yu Danxue to everyone: “This young lady, Yu Danxue, is my Little Auntie—a blood relative, an elder in the family!”
