Chapter 20: Soaring Dragon Group
There was silence on the other end of the line for a long moment before a faint, eerie voice finally spoke.
"I remember now. What is it? To what do I owe the honor of your call, President Huang?"
Huang Wei nodded and bowed obsequiously, holding his phone with both hands. "I wouldn't dare, I wouldn't dare. Please, President Xiang, just call me 'Little Huang'."
"It’s like this..."
Huang Wei recounted everything that had just transpired. "I wanted to ask you to step in and help me deal with this guy. Of course, if you send some of your top experts, I will certainly see that they are well compensated. I wouldn't be bothering you if I hadn't run out of all other options!"
When Huang Wei had first made the acquaintance of Xiang Peng, he knew the man held a prominent position with immense power. If one could afford his price, he could get anything done. He was a titan with eyes and hands that reached the heavens.
"Oh, so that’s the situation."
"What a coincidence. I happen to be near Wushi University. I’ll stretch my legs and come over to take a look."
Before Huang Wei could respond, the call was cut off.
Yet, a look of wild, unexpected ecstasy washed over Huang Wei. He was so overwhelmed by the sheer surprise that it took him a long time to regain his composure. He had intended to ask for some of Xiang Peng’s subordinates, but he had never imagined he would be summoning the man himself.
Huang Wei was trembling with excitement. Who was this? This was the titan of Wushi, the Chairman of the Xianglong Group and the head of the Xiang family, Xiang Peng. Even in the entirety of Wushi, there were very few people capable of moving such a formidable Buddha. And yet, he, Huang Wei, had actually managed to call him over? This was nothing short of divine intervention.
The look of dejection and despair vanished from Huang Wei’s face instantly. He became arrogant and radiant once more, as if he had regained his vigor. With Xiang Peng’s protection, Huang Wei felt as though the entire city of Wushi was under his control.
Huang Wei puffed out his chest, looking down at Li Moxuan with an air of immense arrogance. "Haha... consider yourself lucky, kid. President Xiang is coming personally to deal with you. Today, even if you were an immortal from the heavens, you wouldn't be leaving this place alive."
Director Peng’s expression shifted. He knew Huang Wei had some connections, but he never expected him to be able to reach someone of such top-tier status in Wushi. Though it was a matter of luck, the fact that the man was coming was all that mattered.
Lin Yitong did not understand the intricacies of the situation, but she understood exactly what the name "Xiang Peng" meant. The Xianglong Group was worth over a hundred billion and was the leader of the real estate industry in Wushi. Furthermore, they controlled a significant portion of the city's entertainment and various other sectors. He was also the well-known leader of the Xianglong Gang, a prominent underground syndicate in Wushi. While underground forces often appeared to have vanished, they were omnipresent; they had simply retreated into the shadows, unknown to the average person. Yet, they were the ones truly pulling the strings and setting the unwritten rules. Regardless of the time, these great families and underground gangs were the real masters, aside from the official authorities.
Although Huang Wei was a wealthy, powerful upstart, compared to such a titan with massive influence, he was merely a small landlord. It was unclear which of Huang Wei's ancestors had blessed him to allow him to climb such a relationship.
Seeing that Huang Wei had managed to summon such a big shot, Lin Yitong was overjoyed. She leaned in, pressing herself against Huang Wei’s hairy arm and rubbing against him, acting coquettish to curry favor.
"Honey, you are so amazing," she cooed. "My judgment really is the best. I never liked those penniless nobodies anyway; this fate was clearly destined. I truly have a keen eye for talent—I chose the right man! Mwah!"
Lin Yitong kissed Huang Wei on his blood-stained face, looking utterly blissful. She glanced triumphantly at Li Moxuan, as if to say: *See? A loser is a loser, after all. The man I, Lin Yitong, chose is ten thousand times better than you.*
Under Lin Yitong’s flattery, Huang Wei became even more smug, floating on cloud nine. "Hahaha... of course. Do you have any idea who I, Huang Wei, am? I’ve said it before: in this city of Wushi, no one can afford to offend me. Those who do, don't live to tell the tale. There isn't a single thing I, Huang Wei, want that I cannot have."
Huang Wei stared at Li Moxuan with a cruel smile, his gaze drifting back and forth between Sister Guihua and Li Moling. It was clear he had already begun planning how to humiliate and toy with the two women once again.
Watching Huang Wei summon Xiang Peng, Sister Guihua turned pale with fear, her still-charming figure beginning to tremble slightly. She tugged at the corner of Li Moxuan’s shirt, whispering with concern, "Moxuan, why don't we just leave?"
Although Sister Guihua was just a simple widow from Peach Blossom Village with no real power, she had heard many people in the village mention the Xianglong Group. It was a massive force that could make the entire city of Wushi tremble with a single stomp of its foot. To become a hegemon in the real estate industry, they surely had all sorts of ruthless methods. If they offended them, she feared they wouldn't even know how they died.
Li Moxuan, however, remained completely calm. He looked at Sister Guihua. "Sister Guihua, take Moling and head back first. I will return once I’ve finished handling things here."
Judging by Huang Wei’s attitude, he would likely be bringing quite a few people. Having Li Moling and the others nearby would not only hinder him but, should he accidentally go too far, seeing the violence might terrify them.
Sister Guihua pleaded desperately, "Moxuan, this is no time to be stubborn. If all else fails, just apologize. Consider it a favor to me. If we really can't get away, you take Moling and go; I’ll stay behind to handle him!" Seeing Huang Wei moving toward them, Sister Guihua had already decided to sacrifice herself to save the Li siblings. She looked at Li Moling. "Moling, you talk to your brother, too!"
But Li Moling instead grabbed Sister Guihua’s hand and began walking toward the door of the private room, her expression resolute and silent.
Sister Guihua looked astonished. "Moling, you... you aren't going to help your brother?"
Li Moling said firmly, "Don't worry, Sister. With my brother's strength, there will absolutely be no problem! I believe in him!"
Even as she said this, a flash of worry passed through Li Moling’s bright eyes as she led Sister Guihua away. She knew that as a practitioner, Li Moxuan’s strength was beyond what ordinary people could imagine, but he was her own brother, after all; if anything were to happen to him, her heart would naturally ache. However, Li Moling was clever; she had seen the situation clearly. Staying here would only be a burden to Li Moxuan. Leaving immediately was the greatest help she could offer her brother.
Seeing Li Moling and Sister Guihua leave, Huang Wei did not stop them. It wasn't that he didn't want to, but he had no one left to do it. Xiang Peng hadn't arrived yet, and his own men were all lying on the ground. It didn't matter, though; once he finished off Li Moxuan, finding those two women later would be an easy task. Those two beautiful flowers were his for the taking.
Huang Wei curled his lips into a cold, cruel smile. "After I finish you off, I’ll take my time with those two women."
Li Moxuan remained unruffled. He pulled over a chair and sat down, crossing his legs and waiting leisurely for Xiang Peng to arrive. "We'll see about that when the time comes."
Time passed quickly. The atmosphere in the private room was tense and stifling, like the calm before a storm. Director Peng’s forehead was covered in cold sweat, and he cast worried glances at Li Moxuan from time to time. He wanted to offer advice but stopped himself, finally letting out a helpless sigh.
Li Moxuan, meanwhile, remained poised and steady, as if none of this concerned him. He sipped his drink, waiting for Xiang Peng and his party to arrive.
About ten minutes later, a dense sound of footsteps echoed from outside the room.
*Thump, thump, thump...*
The footsteps were not chaotic; they were uniform, heavy, and distinct. The entire floor vibrated rhythmically, as if an elite squad were rapidly approaching.
*Good heavens!* How many people had Xiang Peng brought? How could there be such an imposing aura?
Huang Wei was instantly ecstatic. He hurriedly smoothed his clothes, preparing to welcome them.
