Chapter 055: Why Is This Happening?

“What’s the matter, everyone? Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Lin Zhan, also known as Miscellaneous Eleven, a servant disciple in Team C of the Daisy Hall. You can just call me Lin Zhan!” The sunny youth grinned broadly and strode over with a carefree air.

“Stop right there!” Everyone was stunned, but Captain Lu Feiying reacted quickly, shouting the command.

All at once, the squad drew their weapons, ready for battle, as if facing a formidable foe. Damn it, could this be a trap? Everyone’s been searching for this guy, and he just shows up looking so harmless? Even though servant disciples are essentially ordinary people without cultivation, the smile on his face was suspicious—surely there was some scheme, or maybe a hidden master lurking nearby.

“Fellow Daoist, stop hiding and come out!” Another squad member, Guo Xingda, who was at the Yellow Rank, thought he saw through Lin Zhan’s ploy and shouted toward Lin Zhan’s back.

“Hey, you really don’t need to be afraid—I’m really alone!” Lin Zhan found it hilarious. These so-called experts were far too paranoid.

With numbers on his side, Lu Feiying steadied his team and stared at Lin Zhan, who was now only a few steps away. “Are you really Miscellaneous Eleven, a servant disciple?”

Lin Zhan straightened his back and replied, “That’s right!”

The group burst into laughter. This kid clearly didn’t realize his doom was at hand; even now he was so arrogant.

“Captain, should we send a message to the other teams and tell them we’ve found him?” a subordinate asked Lu Feiying.

“Do you want others to steal the credit?” Lu Feiying glared at him, making the Rank One subordinate shrink back.

Lu Feiying’s face darkened as he turned to Lin Zhan and coldly demanded, “Fine, then tell me—where are the two stewards, Cheng Zhi and Wei Tielong?”

Before Lin Zhan could answer, a burly squad member lunged forward, reaching out to grab him and cursing, “Damn it, get over here and kneel!”

Lin Zhan shifted subtly, feigning a stumble, and in a bizarre move, grabbed the man's hand. Both tumbled together, and by sheer chance, a protruding ice rock lay nearby. From behind, it looked as though the burly man tackled Lin Zhan onto the rock.

The squad laughed uproariously at the spectacle.

“Look at the kid—scared out of his wits!”

“Hey, big guy, did you spend the night jerking off? Why are your legs so weak? Hahaha!”

“Hey, don’t fight me for the fresh meat!”

The incident was so comical that even Captain Lu Feiying couldn’t help but smirk.

Lin Zhan’s head poked out from beneath the burly man, and he struggled to wriggle free, apologizing breathlessly, “Sorry, my foot slipped!”

But the burly man didn’t move. Lin Zhan patted his back, anxiously asking, “Brother, are you alright?”

What was going on? Another Rank One member came over, muttering, “Hey, stop playing dead.”

When the burly man was finally turned over, everyone—including Lin Zhan—cried out in shock.

His forehead was sunken, the wound gruesome and bloody—he was dead!

“Oh no, how did he die? It’s not my fault!” Lin Zhan leaped back, looking terrified.

“Damn it, stop right there, you bastard! You murdered him!” Several Rank One members gave chase, itching to tear him apart.

The captain and three Yellow Rank members inspected the corpse, all wearing puzzled expressions.

They’d all seen how the burly man died, but how could such a thing happen? It was too bizarre.

Everything had happened so naturally: the burly man tried to grab Lin Zhan, Lin Zhan panicked and slipped, both fell, the burly man’s weight pressed Lin Zhan underneath, and his head just happened to strike the sharp corner of the ice rock—blood poured out, and he was dead, just like that!

Lu Feiying, his face contorted with internal agony, reached out and closed the burly man’s wide, staring eyes, murmuring under his breath, “When we get back, don’t say he died like this—let the dead keep their dignity.”

The three Yellow Rank deputies nodded in agreement.

For a Rank One cultivator at the peak of the ninth grade to die in such a ridiculous way—it was humiliating.

The four stood in silence, shaken.

“What’s the matter with you all? You still haven’t caught that servant boy!” Lu Feiying exploded in anger.

Several late-stage Rank One members were chasing a servant disciple with no cultivation—and this was the result?

Lin Zhan was running in circles around the burly man’s corpse, while the others chased and tried to cut him off. Yet every time they almost caught him, Lin Zhan would stumble or shift his shoulder and head just so, as if by instinct, barely dodging their grasp. All the while, he kept shouting, “Brothers, it really wasn’t my fault! Please stop chasing me, I’m so tired! Why won’t you listen? Why, oh why?”

Exhausted? Yet his speed never slowed, while the pursuers were nearly out of breath. What kind of logic was this?

“Damn it, what are you idiots doing?” Seeing this, one of the Yellow Rank deputies, Chen Feng, lost his temper. His subordinates were a disgrace—one had died in a freak accident, and now they couldn’t catch a mere servant? Damn it, he’d have to do it himself. If he left it to Captain Lu, things would get even worse.

With that, Chen Feng moved—leaping into the air.

Even in midair, he cursed inwardly, “Damn it, when have I ever used Heavenly Flight against a regular person?”

With the deputy personally taking action, the Rank One squad members stopped, internally near collapse from embarrassment, waiting for their reprimand.

They watched as Chen Feng, like a great bird, descended toward Lin Zhan.

At last, they felt a weight lift from their shoulders—finally, the brat would be caught.

Chen Feng noticed, mid-leap, that Lin Zhan had stopped running and turned to smile at him.

“He must think my Heavenly Flight is impressive.”

But something felt off. Chen Feng saw Lin Zhan raise his fist.

“Hah, the brat must be scared witless again—an instinctive reaction. Watch how I startle him this time. Even though the kid isn’t terribly fair-skinned, his backside is perky enough; tonight, I’ll be sure to enjoy myself.”
