Chapter 55: The Young Heiress Bursts Into Tears—We’re Not Selling Anymore!
Qingcheng, inside Wang Yang’s rented apartment.
Sitting on the sofa, Wang Yang had his eyes closed, drifting between sleep and wakefulness. He had been exhausted lately. After sending Jiang Liangliang back to the company to continue overseeing operations, he returned alone, ate a simple meal, and sat on the sofa, pondering everything that had happened. Gradually, he fell asleep.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Suddenly, a sharp knock at the door jolted Wang Yang awake. He opened his bloodshot eyes, still groggy, and glanced irritably toward the door.
“Who is it?” he asked, getting up and walking toward the door.
No one answered.
Without hesitation, Wang Yang opened the door to find Liang Yuzhu standing outside, dressed plainly, her head bowed.
“President Liang? Why are you here? Come in quickly.” Wang Yang turned and fetched a pair of women’s slippers.
Liang Yuzhu said nothing, entering silently, changing into the slippers, and seating herself quietly on the sofa.
Wang Yang didn’t think much of it. He went to the kitchen to pour a glass of water and placed it in front of her. “What’s the matter, President Liang? You came all the way here yourself—is there some instruction for me?”
“Um... I heard from Liangliang that when you took clients to inspect the goods this morning, people from the military showed up?” Liang Yuzhu’s voice trembled as she lowered her gaze.
Wang Yang crossed his arms and nodded. “Yes, that’s true.”
Then he smiled wryly. “That Jiang Liangliang—I specifically told her to keep it confidential from you, but I didn’t expect her to spill the beans.”
Liang Yuzhu shook her head. “I pressed her for answers; it has nothing to do with her.”
Wang Yang sighed silently. “So, what are you thinking?”
Liang Yuzhu lifted her head, her eyes brimming with tears as she stared straight at him, lips tightly pressed, on the verge of breaking down.
“Don’t, don’t cry, President Liang. My President Liang, please don’t cry.” Wang Yang was momentarily stunned, hastily handing her a tissue. “Here’s the thing: the military came because they suspect that what we’re selling are actual fighter jets, so they went to test them.”
“But... the warehouse is sealed off now...” Liang Yuzhu asked blankly.
Wang Yang nodded. “Yes, the military’s preliminary findings suspect these really are fighter jets, which is why they locked down the warehouse.”
Liang Yuzhu was stunned for a long moment, tears streaming down her cheeks as she pressed her thin lips together. “Does that mean... we’re going to be prosecuted?”
“Liangliang said the military might charge us with arms trafficking, putting us before a military tribunal for punishment. I looked it up—arms trafficking in Jiuzhou carries a minimum sentence of three years, up to ten years, and that’s only for smuggling guns and ammunition.”
“But we... we’re trafficking fighter jets, which are classified as top-grade military combat weapons. Could we be sentenced to death?” Liang Yuzhu sobbed uncontrollably.
Wang Yang raised his hand as if to comfort her but thought better of it. Sitting back on the sofa, he smiled helplessly. “Don’t cry yet. Nothing’s been decided. Besides, the military might not sentence us to death.”
If the military confirmed these were F-22 fighter jets, forget the death penalty—they wouldn’t even imprison us for a month.
After all, would the Jiuzhou military sentence the owner of a company capable of procuring F-22s to death?
They’d be thrilled!
The Jiuzhou military would love to get their hands on more F-22 fighter jets, so they could have a real F-22 strike force of their own.
Liang Yuzhu’s worries were utterly needless.
But Wang Yang couldn’t say this outright just yet.
“Wang Yang, can we return all the deposits and final payments? We won’t sell the fighter jets anymore. We’ll hand them over to the state. We don’t want them anymore, okay?” Liang Yuzhu grabbed his hands, tears in her eyes, her gaze filled with fear and anxiety.
Wang Yang looked at her like this and wanted to say something but didn’t know how to begin.
He completely understood her feelings.
Originally, they just wanted to make some money. Now that the military had shown up, they might face the death penalty. Who could bear that?
Moreover, with the military involved and everything exposed, the only solution she could think of was to return all payments and hand over the jets, hoping the military would drop the matter.
Liang Yuzhu’s mindset was genuinely simple.
If she had been shrewd, she never would have agreed to the deal to traffic F-22 fighter jets in the first place.
“We can pay back the loans slowly. I’ll do live streams with you; you teach me how to do them. Even if we earn a few thousand yuan per stream, we’ll pay back the loans little by little, okay, Wang Yang?” Liang Yuzhu’s voice choked with tears; her beautiful eyes were swollen and red.
Wang Yang smiled and gently pulled his hands away. “Don’t worry, my President Liang. Neither you nor I will be sentenced to death. And even if the military wants to arrest us, it definitely won’t be on charges of arms trafficking.”
“R-really?” Liang Yuzhu stopped crying but sniffled.
Wang Yang nodded firmly. “I promise you, the military will take the fighter jets from the warehouse back to the military district. After a series of tests, they will come to talk to us.”
“Doesn’t that mean they’re coming to arrest us? Let’s just return the money now...” Liang Yuzhu started crying again.
Wang Yang quickly raised his hand to stop her. “No, listen first. The military’s visit isn’t to arrest us. Very likely, they’re coming to discuss cooperation.”
“C-cooperation?” Liang Yuzhu looked puzzled.
Wang Yang nodded. “Exactly. I guarantee neither of us will be in trouble, and the company will be fine.”
“Keep the deposits and final payments safely in the company’s accounts. That money is rightfully ours—just take it calmly,” he added.
Tearfully, Liang Yuzhu asked, “Really? Wang Yang, you can’t lie to me. You absolutely can’t lie.”
It was clear she was genuinely terrified.
Wang Yang reached up and stroked her head. “Don’t worry, when have I ever lied to you?”
Liang Yuzhu lowered her head and nodded. “Okay... then I’ll trust you this once.”
“By the way, have you thought about how you want to celebrate? You’d better decide soon. The military probably won’t take long before they come knocking. You better be ready to celebrate,” Wang Yang teased.
Liang Yuzhu burst out laughing. “I had it all planned at first, but after hearing what Liangliang said, I completely forgot...”
Wang Yang looked at her speechlessly and sighed. “Then go back and think it over properly. Try to decide quickly.”
“Okay.”
“All right, let’s go. I’ll walk you back.”
“Okay...”
