Chapter 20: Peril Encountered

Yu Xiangrui suddenly understood, "So that's how it is. From now on, just focus on your work. Our company needs someone like you who is down-to-earth."
Yan Ningxi smiled, "Then I’ll take it as a compliment from Manager."
"Stop calling me manager or using 'you' (formal). Just be casual—I always feel like I’m much older than you when you say that," Yu Xiangrui laughed. "Just call me Sister Xiangrui from now on."
"Okay, Sister Xiangrui."
The leader took the initiative to close the distance, and Yan Ningxi was no fool; she could see the intention behind it.
The two arrived at the company’s underground parking lot.
Yan Ningxi walked cautiously, paying attention to the surrounding noises.
If someone with ill intent wanted to strike, the dark underground parking lot would undoubtedly be the perfect place.
However, it was after work hours, and many people from the office building had come down to get their cars.
Everyone she saw so far showed no signs of suspicious behavior.
Strange—could it be that the culprit refrained from acting here because there were too many people?
Yu Xiangrui reached her car, opened the door, and got in directly.
Seeing this, Yan Ningxi hesitated no longer and climbed into the passenger seat.
There was no danger here now, so any threat must be outside the company.
She needed to think carefully about where the next danger might arise.
But just as Yan Ningxi closed the door, a sudden sound of a door shutting came from behind her, and a rope dropped down from above, tightly wrapping around her neck.
Yan Ningxi: "..."
Heavens, how had she not thought that the dark interior of the car was also the perfect place for an attack?
At the moment the rope tightened, a man’s hoarse voice entered their ears: "Don’t move. If you move again, I’ll kill her."
Yu Xiangrui’s body trembled upon hearing the voice—just by hearing it, she knew who it was.
Seeing that he actually wanted to kill Yan Ningxi, Yu Xiangrui’s expression turned anxious. "Gu Wangshan, what are you doing? Let Ningxi go right now! You actually followed me to my company?"
She regretted unlocking all the car doors.
Gu Wangshan’s face was dark and sinister, his grip on the rope unyielding. "I’m your man. Isn’t it normal for me to come to my woman’s company?"

Yu Xiangrui shouted angrily, "Stop talking nonsense. You’re just someone I was set up with. I told you clearly that day—I’m not interested. Why do you keep pestering me?"
Yan Ningxi finally understood why Yu Xiangrui had a headache today. It was all because Yu Xiangrui had dragged her into this.
If she hadn’t gone to the hospital with her today, without a car, she wouldn’t have come to the underground parking lot at all.
"You dare say I’m pestering you?" Gu Wangshan grew even more agitated. "I love you so much. I’ve given you so many gifts. Didn’t you accept all of them? Accepting my gifts means agreeing to be my girlfriend. So why say such hurtful things now?"
"I didn’t accept them. Stop talking nonsense," Yu Xiangrui protested, feeling wronged. "I sent all those gifts back to your home through a runner. You accepted them every time, but I returned them all. I didn’t keep a single one."
Gu Wangshan frowned. "I don’t care. I gave them anyway."
"You!"
Yan Ningxi found it hard to breathe. She gripped the rope tightly around her neck, struggling to speak, "Can your grievances not involve me? I’m suffocating. I’m going to faint."
"Sorry, Ningxi, it’s all my fault for dragging you into this," Yu Xiangrui immediately looked at Gu Wangshan. "Let her go now. Are you really going to kill someone?"
Gu Wangshan showed no sign of loosening the rope. "No, unless you agree to be mine."
"Impossible!"
"Impossible?" Gu Wangshan tightened his grip.
"Uh... I... I can’t breathe." Yan Ningxi’s face was turning purple.
Yu Xiangrui had indeed provoked a man with issues.
She wondered who hated her enough to set her up with such a troubled match.
Seeing the situation, Yu Xiangrui had no choice but to soothe him. "Okay, okay, I agree. Just let her go first."
Gu Wangshan was overjoyed. "Really?"
Seeing his hopeful expression, Yu Xiangrui pressed on, "Really. If you don’t let her go, someone’s going to die. How can we be together like that? Do you want your future children to know their father is a murderer?"
Gu Wangshan finally loosened the rope.
Yan Ningxi gasped for air.
Yu Xiangrui was about to roll down the window to call for help when Gu Wangshan noticed and warned darkly, "Don’t move, or I’ll kill her immediately!"
Suddenly, Gu Wangshan had a knife in his hand, pressed against Yan Ningxi’s neck.
Yan Ningxi glanced at it out of the corner of her eye, then quickly looked away, feeling exhausted.

Seizing the moment when Gu Wangshan’s attention was on Yu Xiangrui, she pressed a button on her phone and turned the screen toward the car roof to avoid the light flashing if a message came in.
Yu Xiangrui grew even more nervous, her voice trembling, "I already agreed, right? Let her go now!"
Gu Wangshan snorted coldly. "Do you really think I’m stupid? If I let her go now, you’d call the police immediately afterward."
Yu Xiangrui’s heart sank with a bad feeling. "Then what exactly do you want to do?"
Gu Wangshan sneered, "Do I need to explain? Drive out now, no calling the police, no seeking help from anyone else. Go to my house. No strange moves on the way, or I’ll kill her right away and then come to your house to kill your whole family."
Yu Xiangrui had no choice but to comply.
She dared not make any sudden moves; Gu Wangshan was crazy, and provoking him would have serious consequences.
The car quickly exited the underground parking lot.
Seeing Yan Ningxi remain silent, Yu Xiangrui felt deeply sorry. "Xiao Yan, it’s all my fault you got caught up in this. Don’t worry, even if I die, I won’t let him hurt you."
Gu Wangshan sneered.
Just two weak women, what could you possibly do?
If he had really acted earlier, they’d both be dead and gone to meet the King of Hell by now.
Yan Ningxi looked like she was about to cry. "Yes, Sister Xiangrui, you have to save me. I don’t want to die."
"Don’t be afraid."
Yu Xiangrui had no choice but to drive toward Gu Wangshan’s home.
Meanwhile, Yan Qingyu was waiting in the hospital ward for her sister to arrive.
Today, Yan Xiubai had gone home to cook. He timed it so that when his daughter finished work and came over, they could all enjoy a hot meal together.
But the agreed time passed, and Yan Ningxi still hadn’t shown up.
Yan Qingyu grew worried. "Dad, Mom, didn’t Sister say she’d come right after work? Why hasn’t she arrived yet?"
Yan Xiubai glanced at the time on his phone. "Something’s definitely off."
