Chapter 14: I Will Surely Kill Zhou Hao!
Chen Xuewen sat on the ground, his heart heavy with pain and regret. If only he hadn’t confessed to the campus beauty that day, none of this would have happened, and his parents wouldn’t have died.
But in this world, there is no medicine for regret.
After a long while, Chen Xuewen took a deep breath and lifted his head once more.
“What’s your relationship with Zhou Hao?” he asked through gritted teeth.
Wu Lihong sneered, “Me? I’m just a waitress to Zhou Hao.”
“He thinks I have some savvy and I’m not too bad looking. When entertaining guests, he takes me along to help liven up the mood.”
“In plain terms, I’m like a stray dog. When he’s happy, he feeds me; when he’s not, I have to go out and earn my keep on my own.”
Chen Xuewen frowned. “Then why are you the one bribing the witnesses?”
“I was there that night too,” Wu Lihong said.
“Zhou Hao gave me money to buy off the witnesses.”
“I had no choice. If I didn’t do as he said, I probably wouldn’t be alive.”
Chen Xuewen sneered coldly. “So you think you’re innocent?”
Wu Lihong gave a bitter laugh. “What innocence do I have?”
“I took the money and did this despicable thing; I’ll get my comeuppance sooner or later.”
Chen Xuewen glanced at her, surprised by her calmness. He expected her to beg for mercy like Zhao Dong, but Wu Lihong never once pleaded.
This woman was definitely different from ordinary people.
Chen Xuewen asked, “What about my parents?”
“What about them?” Wu Lihong’s body trembled slightly at the mention.
For some reason, Chen Xuewen noticed her eyes reddening.
After a long silence, Wu Lihong spoke softly, “They had the first autopsy report and wanted to appeal your case in the provincial capital.”
“Zhou Hao... Zhou Hao was afraid the truth would come out, so... he sent people to stage a car accident and killed them!”
Though he had suspected his parents were murdered, hearing it confirmed was like a crushing blow that tore at his heart.
He clenched his fists, tears streaming down his face, his nails digging into his palms without him noticing, his mind filled only with memories of his parents’ smiles and voices.
Wu Lihong looked at Chen Xuewen and whispered, “Chen Xuewen, I’m... sorry.”
Chen Xuewen suddenly raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth.
“Sorry?”
“Do you think an apology is enough now?” Chen Xuewen gritted his teeth.
Wu Lihong looked at him with a fierce expression, opened her mouth as if to speak, but said nothing in the end.
Taking several deep breaths to suppress his rage, Chen Xuewen asked in a low voice, “What’s the story with the first autopsy report?”
Wu Lihong replied, “After the campus beauty died, she was taken for the first autopsy.”
“The first report showed there were fluids from three different men inside her body.”
“And none of them belonged to you.”
Chen Xuewen’s eyes widened. Now he understood why Zhou Hao was so desperate.
That first autopsy report was solid evidence that could overturn the verdict.
“So if that report existed, why... why was I imprisoned?” Chen Xuewen asked urgently.
Wu Lihong said, “Zhou Hao paid a hefty sum to have the first forensic doctor transferred away and then arranged for a second autopsy to be done.”
