Chapter 25: I Am Accustomed to Sleeping Alone
Fang Ru was truly, exceptionally beautiful—far more so than the so-called pure campus belle. More importantly, her figure and her poised, elegant demeanor were something a young girl could never hope to emulate. To men, such a woman held the ultimate allure.
Yet, Chen Xuewen seemed not to notice. He shook his head and said, "Thank you, Sister Ru, but I’m used to sleeping alone."
Fang Ru was momentarily stunned. In all these years, no man had ever disregarded her like this; it was her first time facing such a rebuff. However, she quickly laughed. "Oh? I didn't realize you were a modern-day Liuxiahui. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Little brother, are you feeling shy, or are you afraid of Master Wu?"
"Rest assured, this was Master Wu's instruction. Besides, it isn't me who will be attending to you."
With a clap of her hands, several tall, stunningly beautiful young women walked into the room.
"Choose one of these girls to keep you company," Fang Ru said with a faint smile. "If one isn't enough, pick two, or three—it’s no problem even if you keep them all."
Chen Xuewen’s expression remained unchanged. "My thanks, Sister Ru, but I would really just like a good night's rest."
Fang Ru took a deep look at Chen Xuewen, her eyes filled with surprise. She had not expected this young man to possess such composure. She knew that these girls were hand-picked beauties, and usually, men would be transfixed the moment they saw them. Yet, when Chen Xuewen looked at them, his eyes did not flicker in the slightest—a situation Fang Ru had never encountered before.
"It seems you really are exhausted. In that case, get some rest. We can let you enjoy yourself properly once you’ve regained your strength."
With a light smile, Fang Ru turned and left.
Only after they had moved away did Chen Xuewen let out a long sigh of relief. He locked the door behind them and lay down on the bed, his mind a whirlwind of complex emotions. In truth, he was a young man in the prime of his life; he was not immune to impulse. In the past, had he been faced with such a situation and such beauties offering themselves to him, he certainly would have lost his self-control.
But after everything he had been through, he had changed. He was no longer the foolish boy who would throw everything away for love, nor was he a weakling who lost his head the moment he saw a woman.
Old Man Du once said that if a person wanted to succeed, they must learn to control their desires. Though the old man was treacherous and cunning, it had to be admitted that his words held a great deal of truth. Even though Master Hou kept saying he considered Chen Xuewen one of his own, Chen Xuewen knew better than to trust his words entirely.
