Chapter 214: The Art of Fire Charm (Please subscribe, please tip)
“This bird is called the Spywing. Its eyes are sharper than an eagle’s. It flies without making a sound and is specially trained for tracking. The feather talisman is used to lock the Spywing onto its target,” Gai Nie explained as he drove the carriage.
“Sister Rong, Master Ban still hasn’t returned!” Yue’er leaned on Miss Rong’s shoulder and said.
“I will leave him a sign. When he sees it, he will understand,” Rong replied calmly.
“Uncle, since the medical estate belongs to the Mo family, why don’t you ambush the villains there instead of running away?” Tianming asked innocently.
“The medical estate is surrounded by water and is naturally very secluded. Ordinary people can’t approach it easily. If the enemy has found this place, it means they are well prepared, and the situation is unfavorable for us,” Gai Nie explained.
“This is a bit shaky! This spot is far more comfortable,” Xiao Xie complained, adjusting his head as it rested on Murong Huang’s shoulder.
“Brother Xiao, we’re running for our lives now! Can you not act like this?” Tianming nearly lost his mind. “Big brother, we’re escaping, not on a picnic!”
Xiao Xie waved him off. “You’re wrong. You’re the ones running for your lives. The three of us are just along for the ride; we’re not on the same side as you.”
“Do you think those assassins will believe you’re not with us?!” Tianming, frustrated by Xiao Xie’s indifference, grabbed his head and shouted in despair.
“The young master wants to leave. No one in this world can hold him back. Even if surrounded by a million troops, he can still escape unscathed. A handful of assassins are nothing,” Murong Feng said firmly. Though her words were astonishing, her resolute tone left no doubt that she was serious.
The carriage fell into a brief silence after Murong Feng’s words.
“Look! There’s another Spywing!” Suddenly, Tianming lifted a corner of the carriage curtain and pointed to a Spywing perched on a branch.
“Drive...” Gai Nie sensed something amiss, quickly stopping the carriage and stepping out to investigate. Underneath the carriage, he found the feather talisman.
“What’s going on? There’s one on the carriage too?” Tianming exclaimed in surprise.
Xiao Xie noticed Yue’er’s heartbeat quicken and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. He thought silently, “Chilian, you’ve arrived.”
The carriage pressed on until it reached the edge of a cliff. The narrow path barely allowed the carriage to pass, with stones occasionally tumbling down the precipice.
“Great! They can’t catch up now. We’re safe,” Tianming ran over to Gai Nie happily.
Murong Feng and Murong Huang grew alert, and Gai Nie, who was driving, sensed danger approaching through years of instinct.
“Drive!” Gai Nie urged, accelerating the carriage.
“Sister Rong, what’s happening?” Yue’er asked anxiously as the carriage jolted violently.
“Giant monster bird!” Tianming, struggling to steady himself, exclaimed upon seeing the figure in the sky. A massive white bird swooped toward the carriage, clawing fiercely at Gai Nie and Tianming, who quickly dodged aside.
But the white giant bird didn’t relent. It clawed at the horses pulling the carriage. Gai Nie drew his sword, Yuanhong, and swung it at the bird. It screamed as feathers scattered, yet it held tight to the horses, lifting them into the air, while the carriage rushed perilously close to the cliff’s edge.
“Jump off the carriage!” Gai Nie shouted, pulling Tianming down.
“Crack! Tear!”
As the carriage fell off the cliff, two sword energies sliced it into four pieces. Five figures soared into the sky—Xiao Xie leading, Murong Feng holding Duanmu Rong in her arms, and Murong Huang carrying Yue’er. All five were unharmed.
“Thank goodness, Yue’er, you’re all safe,” Tianming smiled in relief, then shouted to the sky, “Bring out all your tricks! Whoever’s afraid of you is a coward! Big monster bird, little monster bird, whatever bird you are, bring it on!”
Just then, another Spywing appeared on a branch ahead. Tianming was astonished. “Oh, the little monster bird really came back. How did you find us again? You’re like a haunting spirit!”
“Because we still have the feather talisman here,” Gai Nie said grimly.
“That’s impossible! We searched everywhere just now,” Tianming said, puzzled.
“Ah! Maybe I was marked when I went to gather herbs!” Duanmu Rong nervously checked herself for the talisman.
“Yue’er, take out the feather talisman on you,” Xiao Xie said calmly.
“Brother Xiao, what are you talking about?” Tianming asked, incredulous.
Duanmu Rong and the others were shocked by Xiao Xie’s words. Only Gai Nie’s expression showed sudden realization.
“Yue’er, speak up! Brother Xiao must be mistaken,” Tianming urged the silent Yue’er.
“Brother Xiao is not wrong. The feather talisman is indeed on me,” Yue’er shook her head, taking out a white feather—the spy talisman.
“How could this be? Yue’er, why would you do such a thing?” Tianming couldn’t believe what he saw. Yue’er was so kind; how could she harm anyone?
“Because...” Yue’er was about to explain but was interrupted by Xiao Xie.
“Because Yue’er has been afflicted by the Fire Seduction Technique! Her memories have been tampered with, making her believe Gai Nie killed her father!” Xiao Xie took over.
“Fire Seduction Technique! That sinister hypnosis technique is one of the secret skills of the Korean assassin guild!” Duanmu Rong exclaimed.
Hearing this, Yue’er was stunned. She had thought Gai Nie was the murderer of Prince Yan Taizidan and sought assassins’ help to take his life. But now, hearing she was under the Fire Seduction Technique and her memories were altered, how could she accept this? If true, she might have endangered everyone.
“That’s impossible! I saw it with my own eyes—this man killed my father!” Yue’er pointed at Gai Nie.
“No, Princess. Your father was killed by Wei Zhuang. Since you insist you saw Gai Nie kill Prince Yan Taizidan, your memories must have been altered. But when exactly were you afflicted by the Fire Seduction Technique?” Duanmu Rong pondered.
“You’re lying! You’re still deceiving me!” Yue’er covered her ears, shaking her head.
With a flash, Xiao Xie appeared behind Yue’er, delivering a palm strike to her slender neck, causing her to faint. He said to Duanmu Rong, “Miss Rong, Yue’er won’t listen now. We should wait before explaining further.”
“All right,” Duanmu Rong nodded, holding the unconscious Yue’er.
“Snakes! So many snakes!” Tianming suddenly shouted.
Everyone noticed that thousands of venomous snakes had surrounded them.
From the midst of the serpents, a woman emerged, dressed in red robes. Her delicate eyebrows curved gracefully, her bright eyes sparkled, her crimson lips revealed gleaming teeth, and her seductive aura was overwhelming. Every step she took was like a dance, full of charm and elegance.
She was a born enchantress—her radiant complexion, alluring cherry lips, and exquisite features like a painting. Like a blooming rose at dawn, her large, mesmerizing peach blossom eyes shimmered with countless enticing emotions. She was none other than the assassin of the shifting sands, Chilian.
Gai Nie instinctively placed his hand on the hilt of Yuanhong, but as he summoned his inner strength, a sharp pain surged through his body, dispersing all his gathered energy.
“Uncle, what’s wrong?” Tianming anxiously steadied Gai Nie, worry etched on his face.
“Heh heh heh, he’s been poisoned with a terrifying toxin. Thanks to that little girl Yue’er’s help, otherwise, Gai Nie at his peak would have been a formidable opponent,” Chilian laughed lightly.
