Chapter 136: Top-Tier Monster [Please Subscribe!]
Fan Li had a wish: if one day he could truly take control of the Monster House, he would teach every single monster that had ever frightened him a lesson.
As for whether he would use a leather belt or a ruler, he would decide based on his mood at the time!
Even though Fan Li had already returned to his room, the scene of the young girl right before his eyes remained vividly clear, an image etched into his memory that could not be erased.
She had been swallowed by a raging fire, her flesh withering away amidst the flames, leaving behind nothing more than a charred, burning skeleton. Yet even so, she retained a degree of vitality; though her body could not move, her gaze swept across everything around her.
Those pale, ghostly pupils fixed upon Fan Li, her hatred seemingly materializing into tangible flames cast directly upon him. This allowed him to feel the agony the girl was enduring, though it was merely a fraction of a percent.
That hatred was so intense that even the nearby ritual catalysts were affected by it. Even though Fan Li had merely stumbled into that place by mistake, he was still caught in the backlash of this overwhelming malice.
Fan Li even felt that this hatred possessed the power to warp the rules of reality. His own body began to change, mutating from a normal human into a deformed monster polluted and corrupted by spite.
A soft whisper echoed in Fan Li's ear:
"The day of vengeance has come. Let them plunge into my nightmare!"
Fan Li lost himself. He felt his stature grow, his limbs twist and contort, his facial features merging together until only a single, exposed eye remained. Amidst the girl's soft murmurs, he had been transformed into a complete and utter monster.
At the very brink of disaster, the inverted crucifix hanging around Fan Li's neck suddenly trembled, sending a jolt of chilliness through him. It was this that allowed him to break free and return to the safety of his room.
At that moment, he sat slumped against the headboard, feeling as drained as if he had suffered severe dehydration. Fan Li had long since discovered that every time his slaughter value increased, the strength of newly summoned monsters would experience a corresponding boost.
As for that suddenly appearing little girl, despite looking like an innocent porcelain doll, her true strength was utterly immeasurable.
She possessed the power to alter the world.
Fan Li clearly remembered that she had merely cast a hateful glance at his way, and his body had immediately begun an unknown mutation.
What did this mean?
She possessed the ability to create monsters!
The girl's hatred had reached a certain extreme, spreading outward like a plague from her as the center!
Pure darkness and pure hatred.
This reminded Fan Li of the energy carried by the Butcher. Their energies were so remarkably similar, except that the girl's energy was far denser, whereas the Butcher's felt like coffee diluted with water!
Could it be that the Butcher had been influenced by her and thus evolved into his current appearance—wearing a triangular crown with a body covered entirely in stitches?
If that were truly the case, then the little girl's power was even more terrifying than he had imagined!
Fan Li seemed to have glimpsed some fragment of the truth. One thing he could now confirm was that the monsters within the Monster House also varied in strength, and a being of the little girl's caliber was undoubtedly at the very pinnacle.
Only, he wondered what kind of slaughter cost would be required to summon her?
Rubbing his brow, Fan Li gradually calmed his emotions and picked up the Monster Manual, flipping to the latest page.
Acquired Item: [Whistle]
Item Description: A magical item capable of influencing zombies. When blown, it induces confusion in zombies within a 100-meter radius, rendering them unable to attack effectively. However, be aware that blowing it will cause the user to suffer 10 seconds of blindness.
[This is a cunning, despicable life form, and corpse transformation acts like a magnifying glass, releasing all the darkness within its heart.]
[Your might has successfully infected the target. Favorability: 80. The target is in a critical state; prompt healing is advised!]
Just the same sort of trash as the button, as expected.
"Another slaughter value expenditure coming up..."
Fan Li sighed, then reluctantly consumed another 20 points of slaughter value to complete the healing process for the whistle.
After several rounds of healing, Fan Li's remaining slaughter value was now down to just 100 points, leaving him only one-twentieth of the way toward the next summon.
As for the Obsession Textbook, it had just been healed only to be brutally ravaged once again. Since the entity inside had yet to make its stance clear, Fan Li was in no rush to heal it further. After all, his subordinates were already a talented bunch, and what he had said previously was no joke. If the entity remained stubbornly deluded, its ultimate fate would simply be serving as food for Ellie.
Potato chips were merely snacks, whereas absorbing the energy of other monsters was Ellie's main course.
During the battle against the Corpse Colossus, Fan Li had exhausted all the mutant entities and monster seals he had on hand. It felt as though he were running a shop that had completely run out of stock.
Ellie and the Butcher were both regular customers of this shop, the kind of distinguished guests who had invested capital and were simply waiting to collect dividends.
In the past, fighting single-handedly with limited manpower meant exploring by himself was utterly inefficient. But now, he successively had the Xenomorph and the whistle; the former possessed incredible speed and was capable of independent scouting, while the latter had the ability to manipulate zombies. If he sent ordinary zombies out to roam and search for targets, I wonder if that method would be feasible?
If so, Fan Li wouldn't have to act like a headless chicken anymore, but could instead set out with a clear plan and objective to seal mutant entities.
"As expected, everything is easier when you have more people—or rather, more monsters," Fan Li muttered to himself with a sense of lingering emotion.
Fan Li did not linger on the bed for long; he still had many things to do.
"Ellie, hand me the walkie-talkie," Fan Li straightened up, giving instructions to Ellie, who had been cracking sunflower seeds nearby for quite some time.
History proved that in a foodie's world, there was no such thing as being a picky eater.
Following potato chips and spicy strips, Ellie had now conquered a new snack: sunflower seeds.
However, unlike normal people who bothered to crack them one by one, Ellie simply poured half a bag straight into her mouth at once. Her spiral-shaped teeth would then go to work, and within moments, the empty shells would be spat out, leaving her mouth full of delicious seed kernels.
*Crunch!*
*Crunch!*
In just a short while, three empty seed packets and a half-empty bottle of Happy Fat Water piled up in front of Ellie. Both in terms of speed and efficiency, she deserved to be called exceptional.
Ellie could perceive everything around her—an innate ability she possessed. She stood up, picked up the walkie-talkie, and brought it over to Fan Li.
"Wah?" She was asking if there were any other requests.
"None. Go back to cracking your seeds."
Hearing this, Ellie sat back down on the sofa, took a gulp of her drink, and skillfully opened a fourth bag of sunflower seeds.
Although there was currently no electricity, certain walkie-talkies could be powered and used with AA or AAA batteries.
While exploring outside, Fan Li had gathered a batch of battery-operated walkie-talkies, distributing one to every household for easy communication.
Fan Li twisted the dial and spoke just two brief words:
"Meeting!"
