The moment Pei Jingmo heard Song Qingyu’s voice, all the fragments of his scattered soul rushed back into place.
“You... where are you?”
Song Qingyu gave him her location, and Pei Jingmo immediately had Fu Linhan drive him there.
While waiting for Pei Jingmo, Song Qingyu did not remain idle. When she saw the fallen ginkgo leaves, an idea suddenly came to her, and she began picking them up one by one.
Winter had always been a season she disliked, but while she waited for Pei Jingmo, it no longer seemed quite so hateful. In fact, she even found herself looking forward to it.
In the car, Pei Jingmo was wound as tight as a bowstring. He had not slept all night, and his anxious impatience had left him pale and haggard, with dark shadows beneath his eyes.
Fu Linhan glanced at him and offered some reassurance. “Since she called you, she must be waiting for you where she is.”
The veins stood out on the hand with which Pei Jingmo gripped his phone. He wished he could fly straight to Song Qingyu’s side.
He wanted to tell her that it did not matter if she did not love him. As long as she was alive and well, that was enough.
Following the directions to the place Song Qingyu had given him, Fu Linhan explained that they were heading to one of Upper Capital’s more famous temples, Qixia Temple.
Why had she suddenly thought of going to a temple?
Could she be planning to become a nun?
No!
Absolutely not!
The hour-long journey was unbearable for Pei Jingmo.
At last they reached their destination. Before the car had even come to a complete stop, he shoved open the door and jumped out.
“Qingqing!”
“Song Qingyu!”
Damn it. Could the navigation have led them to the wrong place?
Hidden behind a large tree, Song Qingyu watched Pei Jingmo search for her, her heart soft and warm.
She knew that feeling was both gratitude and affection.
Holding the flowers, she quietly crept up behind him and prodded his back with one fingertip. Deliberately changing her voice, she said, “Handsome, could I add you on WeChat?”
Pei Jingmo’s thoughts were entirely occupied by Song Qingyu. Without even turning around, he hurried forward, intent on finding her.
Song Qingyu grabbed the back of his clothes.
“Let go!”
Desperate with worry, Pei Jingmo found it infuriating that the other person still dared to pester him. His dark eyes turned cold as he looked over his shoulder.
The first thing he saw was a bouquet made from ginkgo leaves. Then the face he had yearned for day and night suddenly appeared from behind the flowers, smiling.
“Do you really want me to let go?”
The cold, gloomy aura surrounding him vanished the instant he saw Song Qingyu.
His stern expression cracked in an instant. Before he even had time to think, he had already pulled her tightly into his arms.

Feeling the warmth of her body and holding her for real in his arms, the heart he had kept suspended all night finally settled back into place.
As she breathed in Pei Jingmo’s familiar scent and felt his warmth, the tip of Song Qingyu’s nose suddenly began to sting.
“Pei Jingmo...”
Song Qingyu gently pushed the man holding her away. Looking at his haggard appearance, she guessed that he must have spent the entire night searching for her.
“Will you still love me?”
Pei Jingmo’s breath caught. Then he answered firmly, “No—”
Song Qingyu’s heart clenched.
“I love you, Qingqing. I love you. I have never loved anyone the way I love you.”
Song Qingyu’s ears and cheeks flushed red. She drew a deep breath.
“In the past, you were always the one giving me flowers. I don’t think I have ever given you any. I made this bouquet myself. It’s for you. Do you like it?”
Seeing the dazed expression on Pei Jingmo’s face, Song Qingyu smiled and tugged at his sleeve.
“Could you turn your left ear toward me? There’s something I want to tell you.”
Pei Jingmo obediently bent down and brought his left ear close.
His right ear could not hear, while his left ear was the one nearest his heart. She wanted to convey every part of her feelings to him, completely and without reservation.
“Pei Jingmo, I like you too.”
Pei Jingmo stared at her blankly. Strange emotions surged in his eyes, fervent as molten lava, as though they might break free of his control at any moment.
“I always thought that after what happened with Chu Xingzhi, I would never fall for anyone again. But I still fell for you.”
“I’ve thought about many things these past few days. I don’t think I can stand by and watch you become someone else’s husband, treating another woman well.”
“After spending this much time together, you should know what kind of person I am by now: timid, fragile, and a little difficult. What you don’t know is that I’m narrow-minded and possessive too. If it were possible... would you be willing to spend the rest of your life with someone like me?”
Song Qingyu had never confessed her feelings to anyone. When she had been with Chu Xingzhi, he had pursued her for a long time before she finally agreed to be with him.
When Pei Jingmo had confessed to her before, she had barely given him an answer before he had already sentenced himself to death.
This time, she would be the one to take the initiative.
Song Qingyu appeared calm on the surface, but her body trembled faintly with nervousness.
Although she had heard Pei Jingmo say the day before that he would never love anyone else in this lifetime, she was still afraid that her earlier silence had hurt him.
She took a Bodhi bracelet from her pocket, her bright eyes fixed intently on him.
“I made this Bodhi bracelet myself. I ground every bead one by one, and I even had a master consecrate it. If you’re willing, please wear it.”
Pei Jingmo did not hesitate for even a moment. He slipped the Bodhi bracelet onto his wrist, his voice hoarse with emotion and his eyes reddening.
“I’m willing!”
As he spoke, he took Song Qingyu’s hand and examined her fingers. Her fingertips were red, and some places had even been rubbed raw.
Pei Jingmo was overcome with heartache, gratitude, and happiness all at once. It felt as though his heart had been crushed and then pieced back together, leaving him awash in every emotion imaginable.
A gust of wind swept past, and Song Qingyu shivered. Pei Jingmo quickly removed his coat and draped it over her shoulders.
“Shall we go home first?”
Song Qingyu nodded obediently.
“All right.”

Fu Linhan had been forced to endure an entire feast of romantic affection. On impulse, he took out his phone and sent Bai Yinian a message of complaint.
Bai Yinian had originally been searching for Song Qingyu alongside Pei Jingmo. After Song Qingyu called, he had asked the two of them to go and pick her up, while he had no choice but to return to the company.
Then he suddenly realized that the two of them had made up, and angrily put his phone away.
He would never share such entertaining stories with Fu Linhan again.
In the car, Song Qingyu was surprised to see Fu Linhan.
“Mr. Fu...”
Fu Linhan greeted her with a grin. “Qingyu, you scared your Jingmo half to death by disappearing like that. He had no idea where to look for you, so he had to swallow his pride and come ask me for help. Fortunately, you’re all right. Otherwise, I think he might even have followed you into death.”
“I’m sorry. My phone ran out of battery.”
When he met Pei Jingmo’s icy gaze, Fu Linhan gave an awkward laugh.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. The important thing is that you’re safe.”
Seeing that Song Qingyu was still shivering, Pei Jingmo said to the driver, “Could you raise the temperature a little more?”
At the word “could,” the driver’s entire body jolted. After tremblingly turning up the heat, he did not dare move a muscle.
Remembering something, Pei Jingmo took out his phone.
“Why don’t you call Xie Liuzheng?”
“Liuzheng?”
“Yes, she...”
Before he could finish, Xie Liuzheng’s call came through.
Song Qingyu answered. Before she could speak, Xie Liuzheng’s anxious voice burst from the phone.
“Pei Jingmo, have you found Qingyu yet? I’m warning you, if anything happens to her, I swear I’ll—”
“Liuzheng, it’s me...”
Xie Liuzheng’s voice immediately softened.
“Sweetheart, where did you go? I couldn’t reach you, and I was scared out of my mind.”
Xie Liuzheng had been filming on the plateau recently. If she had not been stranded there, she would already have rushed to Upper Capital.
“My phone died. I’m fine, so don’t worry.”
“Did that good-for-nothing of yours bully you?”
“No...”
Song Qingyu looked at Pei Jingmo with tender affection.
“He treats me very well.”
“If he treats you so well, why did you run away from home?”
“I just wanted some time to think. But now I understand.”
She would love Pei Jingmo wholeheartedly and spend her life by his side.
When they returned home, Song Qingyu saw a table covered with all her favorite dishes. Her heart gave a fierce throb.
“Were these... made by you last night?”
