Volume One, Chapter 133: Knows How to Have Fun
Under the meticulous care of Pei Jingmo, Song Qingyu was finally discharged from the hospital.
To ensure she regained her health, Pei Jingmo cajoled and persuaded her to join him at the gym located in their apartment complex. The gym was filled with older residents. Pei Jingmo greeted them one by one.
"Jingmo, bringing your wife here to work out?"
"Yes, I need to get her in better shape."
"She’s quite frail and has a weak immune system. I heard she’s been hospitalized twice in a single month; she definitely needs to train hard."
Song Qingyu blushed, feeling rather embarrassed. Previously, Mrs. Ma from downstairs had teased her for being the least fit person in the complex and had suggested she join them for square dancing. Between square dancing and the gym, Song Qingyu had chosen the gym. However, she regretted it less than ten minutes into her run on the treadmill.
She was panting heavily, her legs feeling as though they no longer belonged to her. Pei Jingmo knew she was in poor health, but he hadn't expected it to be this bad—she was already asking for a break after only ten minutes.
"Keep going for another ten minutes."
Having come from a military background, Pei Jingmo was accustomed to carrying a twenty-kilogram pack and running ten kilometers as a matter of course. If any of his subordinates were this weak, he would have disciplined them long ago. But Qingqing was his wife, not his subordinate.
"I can't, I really can't go any further."
Song Qingyu stopped the treadmill herself. Knowing that fitness could not be achieved overnight, Pei Jingmo let her drink some electrolyte water. Seeing an elderly woman perform several pull-ups, Song Qingyu was stunned. "Mrs. He is so impressive."
"Want to try?"
"I probably can't do even one."
"Let's go."
Pei Jingmo pulled her over and hoisted her up. "Grab the bar with both hands."
Song Qingyu obediently gripped the bar. Just as Pei Jingmo was about to let go, she cried out, "No, no, I can't hold on at all. I admit it, I’m a weakling."
Pei Jingmo chuckled. He had her wrap her legs around his waist, then grabbed the bar himself and began doing pull-ups. With Pei Jingmo supporting her weight from below, Song Qingyu didn't have to strain her arms as much. She smiled down at him, "Wow, I can do pull-ups too!"
As everyone knew, pull-ups were demanding on arm strength and stamina, especially while bearing the weight of another person. Yet, Pei Jingmo did thirty in a row without breaking a sweat.
"Oh my, these young couples really know how to have fun these days."
"The Pei boy really knows how to pamper his wife."
"Jingmo, you can't exercise like this. You’re doing all the work while your wife is just enjoying the ride."
As long as she didn't have to exert herself, Song Qingyu was quite happy. However, hearing the aunts whispering, she suddenly realized how intimate her position with Pei Jingmo looked. Seeing all the familiar neighbors around, she felt a wave of "social death." Her face turned scarlet in an instant, and she coughed lightly, "Okay, that's enough."
Pei Jingmo stepped onto the ground and set her down. Song Qingyu buried her face in his chest. "I don't want to train anymore. Let's go home."
Knowing she was thin-skinned, Pei Jingmo kissed her forehead. "Alright."
That night, Pei Jingmo drew up a workout plan for her. She didn't have to go to the gym, but she had to meet a daily exercise quota. In the morning, at least fifteen minutes of exercise on an empty stomach. At noon, she had to exercise on her own and send him a video. In the evening, Pei Jingmo would supervise her aerobic activities (including but not limited to bed-based exercise). On the weekends, she was required to spend two hours swimming each day.
To her surprise, after a week, Song Qingyu felt her health improving significantly.
On Friday morning, Song Qingyu was swamped with work. Xie Changhe believed that since the "Word Solver" game had become such a hit, they should expand into merchandise. Song Qingyu knew this was an inevitable path, so she decided to take charge of finding illustrators to prepare for the development of a "Word Solver" manga. Because of the incident with Ma Dandan, everyone had witnessed Gu Yuandong’s cold-blooded ruthlessness and iron-fisted methods, so things had become much more orderly.
Just then, a call came into Xie Changhe’s office, saying that the Chairman wanted to see Song Qingyu in his office.
The Chairman was here? And he wanted to see Song Qingyu?
Xie Changhe immediately began to imagine a dramatic scenario. *Oh no, has the Chairman found out that CEO Gu and Song Qingyu are married? Is he here to force them to divorce? Will he offer her a hundred million to leave the CEO? Will she take the money, or will she choose the CEO?*
He couldn't stop the Chairman from seeing her, so he could only tip off Pei Jingmo.
The fact that the Chairman had suddenly arrived at the company and his first order of business was to meet with Song Qingyu left everyone speculating. Only Sheng Yuru wore a triumphant smirk; she suspected that her uncle had also noticed Song Qingyu trying to seduce her cousin and had come to deal with her.
Song Qingyu was surprised herself. Why would the Chairman suddenly seek her out? Could it be about Xiao Xi?
Still, being summoned by the Chairman was quite nerve-wracking.
"Knock, knock, knock."
"Come in."
Hearing Gu Chengde's voice, Song Qingyu took a deep breath, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.
"Hello, Chairman."
Gu Chengde lifted his sharp, calculating eyes and gave her a faint look. "Sit."
When the Chairman spoke, Song Qingyu dared not refuse. She sat down cautiously, feeling incredibly tense.
Gu Chengde walked toward her step by step and stopped at her side. "Does Ms. Song know why I’ve asked you here?"
"I... I do not know."
"Heh—I thought Ms. Song was a clever person."
Song Qingyu: "..."
After receiving Xie Changhe’s call, Pei Jingmo was frantic and dialed Gu Chengde’s number, but the Chairman hung up on him immediately. He then called Song Qingyu, but she had silenced her phone before entering the office, fearing it would displease the Chairman.
Worried about what Gu Chengde might do to her, Pei Jingmo contacted Xie Changhe. "Go to the Chairman's office. No matter what is said or done, you must get Song Qingyu out of there."
Xie Changhe was on the verge of tears. He couldn't afford to offend the CEO, and even less so the Chairman. Who could tell him what to do?
"Guo Rang! Faster!"
Guo Rang was already going as fast as he could; they had run several red lights, and traffic police were already in pursuit. It was only after Pei Jingmo made a call that the police stopped, preventing a major disturbance.
As soon as the car arrived at the Tianqi Building and before it had even come to a complete stop, Pei Jingmo leaped out. He rarely used the private elevator, but for Song Qingyu’s sake, he rushed toward the one that went directly to the Chairman's office.
In all his life, Pei Jingmo had rarely been this panicked. He was terrified of what the old man might say to her. He was even more afraid that the old man might bully her.
If the old man dared to lay a single finger on Song Qingyu...
Pei Jingmo’s expression was dark and terrifying. For the first time, he felt that the elevator was moving agonizingly slow. When he reached the door of the Chairman’s office, he didn't even have time to knock; he burst straight inside.
