If you keep being stubborn, I'll kiss you hard!
The kiss was fierce and overwhelming, more intense than any they had ever shared before.
It was also the first time Ji Shen had kissed Wen Shuang so openly, without a thought for who might see.
At first, Wen Shuang struggled with all her strength, but she could not break free of his hold. By the end, she could only let him cradle her head and kiss her with her face tilted back.
After a while, her neck ached so badly from being thrown back that she kicked at his leg in anger.
Who would have thought his leg was as hard as iron? She gave him a savage kick, only to end up hurting herself.
While kissing her, Ji Shen tried to rub her foot.
“Shuangshuang, whatever else I am, I’m still a police officer. I work out every day. Don’t go hurting yourself.”
Wen Shuang was furious.
No one knew how long passed before the impeccably proper Officer Ji finally let her go.
Wen Shuang gasped for breath. “Ji Shen, are you a hooligan?”
“I’m your man.” Ji Shen curved his lips in a wicked smile, no trace of the solemnity he had shown the first time they met. “Come on, Shuangshuang. We’ve kissed enough. It’s time to go home and take care of the important business.”
“I’m not going back with you! That’s not my home.”
Without a word, Ji Shen lifted the woman onto his shoulder and carried her to the car, where he set her down.
“Stop being stubborn. If you keep it up, I’ll kiss you. Every time you act tough, I’ll kiss you once, until you stop.”
Wen Shuang was incensed.
But she knew the man had always been shameless, and on matters like this, he absolutely meant what he said.
So she simply clamped her mouth shut, turned her head away, and said nothing more.
When they returned home, she began packing her things.
Ji Shen caught her hand. “Shuangshuang, don’t leave!”
“If I want to leave, that’s my right. Officer Ji, if you don’t let go, I’ll call the police.”
In truth, an argument was something that could be resolved easily enough.
But Ji Shen had ignored her for ten days.
For anyone, that would have been maddening beyond endurance.
Wen Shuang felt that if Ji Shen had not come looking for her, it could only mean that, in his heart, she was not that important after all.
Far less important than that woman, He Suosuo.
“Shuangshuang, I was truly on a business trip for these ten days, and I was really busy. I didn’t mean to not look for you. The person we arrested this time was rather sensitive, and the higher-ups had rules that during the arrest and surveillance period, we were not allowed to use our personal phones. I missed you too, and the moment I finished the operation I rushed straight over to see you. Don’t leave, all right?”
It was rare for the man to lean close to her like this and soften his voice.
Wen Shuang had indeed noticed the red streaks in Ji Shen’s eyes; he looked as though he had not slept well in a long time.
She did not want to be unreasonable.
“Ji Shen, do you know why I was angry?”
If Wen Shuang had asked him that ten days earlier, Officer Ji might truly not have known where he had gone wrong.
But on the way back this time, he had thought it through carefully.
And he had fully applied the tactics for coaxing a woman that Xiao Wang had taught him.
First: no matter whose fault it is, just lower your head.
He had done that.
Second: you must clearly understand exactly what you did wrong.
Ji Shen said sincerely, “I was wrong not to tell you in time that I was having a meal with He Suosuo, which made you think I had lied to you. But, Shuangshuang, I truly hadn’t expected that dinner. It was because my mother said she was ill, so I went home. The fundamental thing I did wrong was that once I had a girlfriend, I should never have eaten alone with another woman again. No matter whether it was due to family requests or anything else, that should not have happened.”
After hearing this, Wen Shuang’s expression softened a little.
Ji Shen hurried on while the iron was hot. “Also, I was damned inconsiderate and wasted the meal you worked so hard to prepare. And after I made a mistake, I lacked patience and a proper attitude when communicating. Those were all my problems. I’ll change them.”
“What else?” Wen Shuang asked.
“And I failed to give you a sense of security.” On this point, Ji Shen truly felt he had been in the wrong. “Now that I have a girlfriend, I should have made things clear with Mrs. He, instead of letting it stay vague for the sake of our families’ friendship.”
Wen Shuang gave a cold snort. “So you’ve finally figured it out.”
When a woman said that, it meant she was already softening.
Ji Shen tightened his arms around her. “I promise I’ll never make these mistakes again. As for He Suosuo, I’ve already cut ties with her and told her not to bother me anymore. I won’t let her bother you again, either.”
Wen Shuang turned away with feigned pride.
“I’ve already made my position clear to my mother as well. If she really likes He Suosuo, then she can either adopt her as a goddaughter, or else work a little harder herself and have another son, so He Suosuo can become her daughter-in-law. Anything else is impossible.”
Seeing how earnestly the man promised her, Wen Shuang finally felt much better.
She punched his chest hard and stomped her foot. “It would’ve been better if you’d had this attitude from the start!”
Then she wouldn’t have been angry over and over again, unable to sleep properly for days.
By now, Wen Shuang was no longer as cold as when they had first met. Instead, she had revealed a touch of a young woman’s softness.
Xiao Wang had said that once a woman reached this point, there was only one step left before she could be coaxed back.
“I was wrong. I let my Shuangshuang suffer for so long. I deserve to be hit.”
As he spoke, Ji Shen told Wen Shuang to hit him hard. After she had landed several blows, he conjured up a bracelet and swiftly slipped it onto her fair wrist.
Wen Shuang only felt a sudden chill around her wrist.
Looking down, she saw a pink jade bangle on her hand.
It was translucent and lustrous, obviously of excellent quality, and pink jade was especially rare.
“This... what is it?”
“A little gift in apology.”
This was the final step in the man’s apology: a carefully prepared present.
“Before I came back, I stopped by an auction. This bangle happened to be the finale item, and its quality was quite good. I thought jadeite would make you look older, but pink bangles are rare and suit your skin tone. So I bought it. Do you like it?”
Ji Shen’s voice was gentle.
Wen Shuang tried to take the bangle off. “This bangle... it must be very precious. I can’t accept it.”
After all, it had been the finale item at an auction.
It had to be worth a fortune.
Yet Ji Shen was firm. “You deserve all the best things in this world. Once I give it to you, it’s yours. Don’t return it.”
He lifted her fair wrist.
On the inside of Wen Shuang’s wrist was a tiny red mole, vivid and beautiful.
He had not noticed it at first. Later, when they were kissing and caressing each other in bed, he discovered it.
And he rather liked it; he could not seem to let it go.
Now that the jade bangle was on, it happened to cover the red mole.
“Brother Shen, thank you.”
The woman was indeed delighted after receiving the gift; this time, she no longer struggled.
She thought that Ji Shen must have been exhausted on this business trip, and yet in the midst of all that he had still managed to bring her a present. That was already very thoughtful.
And he had apologized so sincerely.
She no longer needed to keep harping on this and faulting him endlessly.
Ji Shen scooped Wen Shuang up in his arms and curved his lips wickedly. “Since you’ve forgiven me, does that mean we can do something happy together now?”
He carried her toward the bedroom in long strides.
Wen Shuang wrapped her arms around his neck.
After so many days without a man to warm her, it was not only he who could no longer endure it. Given enough time, a woman would also grow restless.
Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, desire only burned hotter and freer.
This night was destined to be both blazing and long.
