[132] Accidentally Caught Going Through His Phone
Wen Yao clutched her belly immediately. "Aunt Qin, I would love to cook, but I'm truly sorry, I really don't feel well. I was worried that if I got up that early, I wouldn't be able to handle it, and the baby in my belly wouldn't be able to handle it either..."
After speaking, she cast a pitiful look at Qin You.
Mrs. Qin picked up a handkerchief and elegantly dabbed the corner of her mouth. "Yao Yao, you don't understand. Pregnant women need to sleep early and rise early. If you sleep until noon, that's what's bad for the baby. How about this: just try to get up, and starting tomorrow, follow Aunt Mei. If you don't know how, just learn."
Qin You spoke up, "Forget it, Mom. Wen Yao's morning sickness has been quite severe."
If she ended up feeling unwell, she would only come to him to vent. And in the end, he would be the one who was annoyed.
"What if her morning sickness is severe? Which pregnant woman doesn't have bad morning sickness? Since you went to such great lengths to get pregnant, you certainly need to fully experience the feeling of pregnancy."
Mrs. Qin had never approved of this marriage from the start. She had previously set her sights on Xia Anran as a daughter-in-law, but unfortunately, Xia Anran had failed to live up to expectations and ended up in prison. She was just planning to look for someone from another family when Wen Yao got pregnant!
Following that, Wen Fanhai personally visited and promised shares in his company. For the sake of the Qin family's reputation, they had to agree, but Mrs. Qin only wanted the child; she had no intention of accepting Wen Yao as her daughter-in-law! However, since Wen Yao had dared to scheme against the Qin family, Mrs. Qin certainly wasn't going to make things easy for her during this time.
After returning to the dance troupe, Wen Shuang’s life consisted solely of dance. She went to the studio early in the morning; when there was a dance drama, she rehearsed, and when there wasn't, she practiced alone in the studio. She danced for nearly twelve hours a day. Consequently, she was so exhausted when she returned home that she would practically collapse into bed. She had no time to dwell on those painful matters. Tang Yan was right—when your heart is troubled, you should let work numb your emotions.
Ji Shen only discovered Wen Shuang was not at home when he returned on a weekend night. He had been too busy with work, overtime, and business trips to see her for half a month. Whenever he sent her messages, her replies were always indifferent. Ji Shen had been too busy to coax her.
He called her. Wen Shuang answered, "I'm heading home now."
Ji Shen frowned. "It's so late, what have you been doing?"
"Just got off work."
"You went back to work?" the man asked, surprised. "Is your leg completely fine?"
Wen Shuang replied, "Thank you for your concern, Officer Ji. I've been working for half a month now."
Ji Shen was suddenly struck dumb. He realized he truly hadn't cared about Wen Shuang for a long time. In the past, Wen Shuang would tell him everything she did, but now, she had been working for half a month, and he hadn't even known.
When Wen Shuang returned home, she did greet Ji Shen. She wasn't as cold as before. After many days of not seeing him, the man had a ring of blue stubble on his chin, making him look more mature and masculine.
"Is the dance troupe tiring?"
"It's alright."
In reality, it was exhausting. But Wen Shuang was intentionally making herself that tired lately. Ji Shen looked at her face, finding himself at a loss for words. Finally, he just said, "You still need to make sure you get enough rest."
"Thank you, Officer Ji."
After thanking him, Wen Shuang returned to the secondary bedroom to bathe. Ever since they returned from that banquet, she and Ji Shen had started sleeping in separate rooms, and he hadn't taken the initiative to seek her out either. At first, there might have been an element of spite in it, but after sleeping separately so often, she had gotten used to it! Sleeping alone was much better! Moreover, she had been looking at apartments lately, planning to move out. Staying under the same roof as Ji Shen, in a situation that felt like a cold war, made her fear she would fall into depression.
After Wen Shuang finished her bath and carefully applied body lotion, two hours had passed. She went to the kitchen to get some water. A scent of smoke permeated the living room. Presumably, the man had been sitting outside smoking the whole time. Wen Shuang opened a window to let in some air; she didn't like the smell of secondhand smoke.
The sound of splashing water came from the master bathroom. Ji Shen was bathing. Wen Shuang held her water, intending to go back to her room. Suddenly, the phone on the table vibrated. She instinctively looked down and saw a message from Jiang Ning on the screen: *Brother Shen, my power suddenly went out. I'm scared!*
Even though Wen Shuang kept telling herself not to care, she couldn't help but feel angry upon seeing the message. She picked up Ji Shen's phone and scrolled through their previous chat history, wanting to know what was really going on between him and Jiang Ning during this time! If they had already reconciled, Wen Shuang would leave immediately!
Her fingertips flipped through the chat history. It was almost entirely messages sent by Jiang Ning alone. One moment she was asking Ji Shen out for dinner, the next she was saying someone had broken into her home. Ji Shen had replied to her once three days ago: *If there is a problem, call 110.*
Jiang Ning: *But you're the only police officer in my contacts, it's the most convenient!*
Ji Shen hadn't replied again.
Wen Shuang put the phone down, wishing she could reply to Jiang Ning, telling her to call an electrician if the power was out—what use was calling Ji Shen! He wasn't her personal repairman!
"Wen Shuang, what are you doing!"
While showering, Ji Shen felt his attitude recently had been quite wrong. He hadn't considered Wen Shuang's feelings at the banquet before and had been inexplicably bothered by her relationship with Qin You. Then, he had been busy for so many days—it was a wonder Wen Shuang hadn't hit him with a stick! Who would have thought that when he came out, he would see Wen Shuang holding his phone!
Wen Shuang was suddenly startled. "I... I just saw your phone light up, there was a message, so..."
"So you looked at it?" Ji Shen’s brow was tightly knit. He had a habit of disliking it when others touched his phone—anyone, regardless of who they were. His phone contained a large number of important, confidential documents, and if someone touched them, it would be impossible to explain if they were leaked. This was one of Ji Shen's principles.
"Put it down!"
Wen Shuang immediately dropped the hot potato. She cursed herself silently: why couldn't she keep her cool? Now, even if she had a point, she had lost her standing!
Ji Shen walked over quickly and picked up the phone; the screen was left right on his chat history with Jiang Ning. "You were snooping on my phone?"
Wen Shuang gritted her teeth. "I... I'm sorry!" She *had* snooped—it was indeed her own unruly hands and curiosity to blame!
"In the future, do not touch my phone without my permission." Ji Shen’s voice was cold. After reading the message, he put on his coat.
Wen Shuang's face flushed with the heat of being scolded. "Officer Ji, it was wrong of me to check your phone. But between a boyfriend and girlfriend, is it not even allowed to take a look? Or are you feeling guilty?"
"I have nothing to feel guilty about. Wen Shuang, a phone is a private item. I don't like others touching it, including my girlfriend. Do you understand?"
Ji Shen put on his shoes and walked out the door. Wen Shuang followed behind him. "Where are you going so late? Overtime?"
He wouldn't be going over to fix her circuit just because of that message from Jiang Ning, would he?
Ji Shen pursed his lips and said nothing.
Wen Shuang couldn't help but add, "You're going to find Miss Jiang and give her some warmth, aren't you! Ji Shen!"
Ji Shen turned back coldly. "Wen Shuang, it seems I was too indulgent with you in the past!"
