[146] Ji Shen Gets Jealous and Forcefully Kisses Wen Shuang
Half a month had passed since they last saw each other.
They met again at the hospital.
The first words from the man were not concern for her condition, but a questioning tone demanding to know why she was with another man.
Wen Shuang felt a mixture of mockery and amusement.
She retorted, “I’m with Mr. Xia, is that not allowed?”
Ji Shen strode over quickly. “Come back with me!”
In front of everyone, Wen Shuang shook off his hand. “Why should I go with you? Officer Ji, this is a public place—don’t pull me around like that!”
“Wen Shuang, it seems I was too indulgent before. I didn’t keep an eye on you these past days, and now you think you’re capable, don’t you?”
Ji Shen was angry. He had been away on a business trip and Wen Shuang hadn’t even sent a single check-in call. She seemed completely indifferent to what he was doing, as if his presence or absence made no difference.
Originally, Ji Shen had planned to take the suspect for an emergency medical checkup and then pick Wen Shuang up after her shift at the theater.
He never expected to find her laughing and chatting with Xia Hanyan.
“Yes, exactly. You spoiled me too much, so now I can take care of myself,” Wen Shuang said with a cold sneer curling at her lips. Just then, her number was called. Without looking back, she walked inside.
Ji Shen was stunned. Only then did he realize Wen Shuang was unwell and had come to the hospital!
He tried to follow her.
But Xia Hanyan blocked his way, speaking coolly, “Officer Ji, Wen Shuang has been hospitalized for a mild concussion for half a month. You didn’t know?”
Ji Shen was shaken to his core.
“I didn’t know!”
“Then it seems you do care about Wen Shuang enough,” Xia Hanyan said coldly, “Half a month ago, she was doing wire work at the theater when the rigging suddenly malfunctioned, and she fell. I happened to be there and brought her to the hospital.”
Ji Shen’s pupils dilated in shock.
Wen Shuang hadn’t told him any of this. He had been completely kept in the dark!
“Officer Ji, I know you’re busy with work, but Wen Shuang is at least your girlfriend now. Don’t you think you should reflect on why she preferred to be discharged from the hospital with me, a stranger, rather than notifying you as her boyfriend?”
Xia Hanyan’s words were sharp and piercing.
Ji Shen snapped out of his daze and retorted coldly, “That’s between her and me. It’s none of your business!”
“Well, whether it’s my business or not, I’ve been looking after her lately,” Xia Hanyan glanced toward the consultation room. “Wen Shuang is a good girl. If you don’t cherish her, someone else will.”
A sudden surge of crisis gripped Ji Shen.
All this time, despite his busy schedule, Wen Shuang was always at home waiting quietly for his return.
Now, he felt she was slipping further and further away, becoming more uncontrollable.
“Officer Ji, Wen Shuang is in good hands here. You’d better escort your suspect for the medical exam,” Xia Hanyan said.
Ji Shen gritted his teeth but had no choice; his duty had to be done.
He sent Wen Shuang a message, promising to come see her once he was free.
She didn’t reply.
The final checkup results came back showing Wen Shuang had recovered well.
She and Xia Hanyan left without asking about Ji Shen, ignoring the messages he sent as if they didn’t exist.
Xia Hanyan spoke up, “I explained everything to Officer Ji just now, but from the look of it, he’s still very angry.”
Wen Shuang’s eyes cooled. “What does he have to be angry about? At most, it’s just his possessiveness acting up.”
Xia Hanyan drove her back to Rose City. “Wen Shuang, there are plenty of good men in this world. He’s not the only one.”
Startled, Wen Shuang looked up, still processing his words, before Xia Hanyan smiled gently and drove away.
Indeed.
There were countless good men in the world; she didn’t have to hang her fate on just one.
Wen Shuang planned to pack her things and move out.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she got home, the world spun wildly, and a man pressed his lips fiercely against hers.
