Chapter One: Death
Qin Yu had always wondered, what is the purpose of a person's life? The life she had painstakingly built was utterly worthless in the eyes of others.
She realized that, indeed, people think most about their lives at the moment of death; the more memories surfaced, the greater the sorrow that welled within her.
As the zombie ruthlessly tore into her heart, the image of that man's disdainful face flashed before her eyes.
"Did you really think I loved you? With your looks? Your background? That useless water ability of yours? Ha…"
To be fair, though Qin Yu was not a stunning beauty, she possessed a delicate charm, the gentle grace of a cultivated lady. Her temperament was mild and agreeable, the kind that easily won others' favor. But fate had led her to Li Mo, and thus her life became a tragedy.
Ordinarily, water abilities were far from useless. Yet, for reasons unknown, Qin Yu's power could only conjure a mere trickle, not nearly enough to fend off zombies. Curiously, the water she produced was exceptionally delicious… But in these desperate times, without someone's protection or sufficient strength, survival was impossible.
"Why? If you never loved me, why entangle me so? If you didn't care for me, why not say so earlier? You know I would never have clung to you…"
"You want to know why? Ha—do you remember your half jade pendant? Do you know its secret? Since you're about to die, I'll be magnanimous and tell you. It's a storage space, and inside, time stands completely still. Do you know how large it is? Ha—it's the size of three football fields! Ha… just look at how foolish you are… Tsk tsk—"
In this apocalypse, Li Mo had awakened two powers—one, the rare psychic ability; the other, even rarer: spatial manipulation. His storage space was far larger than most, and now she learned the reason—it was all because of that jade pendant…
Hearing Li Mo mention the pendant, Qin Yu remembered: it was the only thing her parents left her when they departed. She could still recall her mother telling her, before she left, that the pendant had once been whole, and the other half belonged to her fiancé. But so many years had passed, and she had never met her betrothed… How ridiculous.
She loved Li Mo, so when he casually asked her about the jade pendant, she handed it to him without a second thought. In her heart, he was her everything… What a pity.
"You're about to die, and I will flourish in this apocalypse with the space you gave me—ha—"
She watched him walk away, her body utterly immobile… In the distance, she saw that flamboyant woman laughing exuberantly.
In her final moments of consciousness, she saw a horde of zombies surging toward her, yet an inexplicable light shone in her eyes…
