Chapter 135: The Contract

The instant Qin Yu saw the card, she understood Ling. He must have been suppressing his feelings for far too long. After giving so much, he had finally received an answer. The events of the past, seemingly as distant as yesterday, could not be forgotten; with the passing of time, they had instead become even more deeply engraved upon his heart.
Everything happening today was more like the fruit borne by the past. After guarding her for so long, he had finally achieved something. In the end, this man was happy too.
Qin Yu watched Ling, who was still laughing with delight, and sighed. She was just about to leave the space when Ling suddenly blocked her path.
“You can take me out of here, can’t you? Hurry and take me out! I have to find her!” Ling stood in front of Qin Yu, his face filled with longing.
Qin Yu thought for a moment, then nodded slightly. “I should be able to take you out. Come on.”
As she spoke, she tugged at Ling’s sleeve and prepared to leave the space. As for what this man would do once they got outside, she truly had no way to stop him. Still, leaving him in her space seemed even more dangerous.
With that thought in mind, she did not bother checking whether Ling was ready. She simply focused her mind and exited the space.
Yet when Qin Yu found herself alone in the room, an ominous feeling welled up inside her. She frowned, then returned to the space.
Inside, Ling was staring blankly at his sleeve, his face filled with helplessness. The moment he saw Qin Yu return, he grabbed her anxiously.
“What happened?”
Qin Yu shook her head, indicating that she did not know.
“Try again,” Ling said.
This time, he gripped Qin Yu’s wrist tightly.
Qin Yu nodded, then concentrated and exited the space once more. Ling still did not come out with her. Helpless, Qin Yu had no choice but to return yet again. She was afraid that if the man lost control, he might destroy her entire space.
The moment she entered, Qin Yu saw Ling sitting dejectedly on the ground. His head was slightly lowered as he stared at his empty palm, apparently lost in thought.
Qin Yu walked over and stood before him. Sensing that his emotions were completely still, she did not know how to begin.
In the end, she could only sit beside him and murmur, “How could you be unable to leave?”
She did not know whether she was saying it to herself or to the person beside her.
The only answer Qin Yu received was silence.
At that moment, his emotions were like an ancient, undisturbed well, utterly without ripples. It was as if he had lost all hope and sunk into an endless darkness, unwilling to make contact with anything outside himself.
Qin Yu knew that allowing things to continue like this could not be good. Yet she truly had no idea what to do, and could only sit there in a daze.
“Ahem… He has not acknowledged you as his master, so naturally he cannot leave.”
Little Red Red approached Qin Yu with weak, stumbling steps.

“What do you mean?”
Ling raised his head and looked at Little Red Red with his emotionless eyes.
“It means exactly what you think it means. This space belongs to Qin Yu, so only her possessions can enter it. When you first came in, you were supposed to be a dead man. Someone without the slightest sign of life could naturally be thrown in by Qin Yu.
“But later, for certain reasons, you came back to life and became a living being. This space originally rejected you. However, because you remained here for so long, you absorbed at least some of the space’s origin. And in order to repair your body, you absorbed countless treasures from this place. That is the only reason you were able to stay here unharmed.
“But the space instinctively rejects outsiders. To prevent you from causing unnecessary trouble for its master after leaving, it trapped you here. The only way for you to leave is to acknowledge Qin Yu as your master.”
Little Red Red spoke weakly, its voice drained of strength.
“Is that truly the case?” Ling asked in a low voice.
“Of course it is!” Little Red Red replied.
“Very well. Qin Yu, I acknowledge you as my master.”
Ling looked at Qin Yu and spoke with solemn seriousness. Yet after that, he made no further move.
Qin Yu and Little Red Red were both stunned.
Was that it? It was that simple? Was saying a single sentence really enough? Could the space even recognize such a declaration?
Little Red Red clearly had not expected the man before it to say one sentence and then do nothing else. It was momentarily dumbfounded as well.
Fortunately, it quickly recovered and said to Ling, “That is not how you acknowledge someone as your master. You have to enter into a contract with Qin Yu!”
“Fine. How do I do that?”
Ling asked without the slightest hesitation.
Taken aback by his straightforward response, Little Red Red somehow produced a sheet of paper and a quill.
“Just sign this.”
Without even thinking, Ling took the paper and quill and prepared to sign his name.
“You must sign your true name, or it will be invalid.”
Little Red Red’s words made Ling’s hand pause. Then, without hesitation, he swiftly wrote several strokes before handing the paper and quill to Qin Yu.
Qin Yu accepted the paper. When she saw the name written upon it, she froze for a moment, then signed her own name as well.
The instant Qin Yu finished writing, the paper rose into the air. Before their eyes, it transformed into a streak of flowing light and entered the center of Qin Yu’s brow.

Qin Yu sensed the power of control granted to her by the contract and was astonished. Then she looked at the weakened Little Red Red, her expression becoming complicated.
Little Red Red seemed to know many things she did not. And what exactly was that contract?
“That’s enough! Let’s go out!”
Ling seized Qin Yu by the wrist and spoke in a tone that brooked no refusal.
Qin Yu frowned. “Wait.”
Ling stared intently at her, as though he wanted to know why she had said that.
“Little Red Red, you don’t look well. What happened?”
Qin Yu crouched down and gently stroked Little Red Red as she asked with concern.
Little Red Red cast her a languid glance. “I was suppressed by someone’s aura for a while. It’s nothing. I’ll be fine after sleeping.”
“Are you really all right?” Qin Yu asked, still worried.
Little Red Red replied impatiently, “I’m really fine! Hurry and take him away. I’m going to sleep.”
Qin Yu rubbed Little Red Red’s head. Although she was still uneasy, Little Red Red clearly wanted to rest, so perhaps she should not disturb it. With that thought, she said, “All right. I’ll come see you tonight.”
Then she left with Ling.
Because of the difference in their heights, Qin Yu did not see Ling say a few words to Little Red Red as it lay on the ground. Nor did she see the power surrounding him deliberately bypass Little Red Red before striking it directly.
A trace of sorrow flashed through Little Red Red’s eyes.
“You have not acknowledged a master. Why are you here?”
Heh. Because it was not a living creature at all. It was not a creature of flesh and blood. It—
Little Red Red’s eyes gradually blurred, and its tail dragged limply across the ground. Struggling to stand, it finally made its way to an inconspicuous corner.
It was then that it heard its own voice say:
“System malfunction detected. Emergency measures engaged. Beginning self-repair.”
“Self-repair initiated. Current progress: zero point zero one percent.”
