Chapter 66: Are You Sure You Can Afford to Offend Me?
“Huh?”
Lin Yimo looked puzzled. “Then how come you’re completely unharmed? Qi Tianyong isn’t someone to be trifled with!”
“It’s simple. Qi Tianyong is afraid of me. In front of me, all he can do is kneel and beg for mercy.”
Lin Yang replied.
Of course, Lin Yimo didn’t believe Lin Yang possessed such a powerful background that even Qi Tianyong would grovel before him.
But clever and smooth-tongued as she was, Lin Yimo didn’t voice her doubts, instead leaving Lin Yang his dignity.
“So that’s how it is. I guess I was worrying for nothing,” Lin Yimo followed his lead.
“As for Wei Dagang, don’t concern yourself. I’ll handle it. You go home first.” Lin Yang said.
“Come with me. This is Wei Dagang’s turf—it’s too dangerous,” Lin Yimo urged, worried.
“I have other things to do.”
Lin Yang closed the car door for her. Before leaving, Lin Yimo couldn’t help but remind him, “Lin Yang, please be careful.”
Lin Yang waved her off, watched her depart, then returned to the KTV suite.
“Brother Yang, I was about to call you. You were gone so long for just a restroom break?”
Zheng Nanxu was already done, looking fully satisfied.
“Where’s Xinxin?”
Lin Yang sat down, but the star hostess, Xinxin, wasn’t in the suite.
“I was just about to tell you—Xinxin is the top hostess at Phoenix Palace. We were lucky to book her tonight. Someone just arrived and demanded her company, so she was called away.”
Lin Yang took a sip of his drink. “We paid for her company, and she can just be taken away by someone else? Is that how Phoenix Palace does business?”
“You, go bring her back,” Lin Yang said to the Madam.
The Madam smiled, explaining, “Mr. Lin, please don’t be angry. Normally, this wouldn’t happen. But this guest is someone of high status—I can’t afford to offend him.”
“So you mean, because we’re not as important as that guest, we can be disregarded at will?”
Lin Yang said, displeased.
A master should have his dignity and pride.
“Mr. Lin, if you insist on seeing it that way, I have no choice. But it was Mr. Zheng who agreed to let Xinxin go. Since he’s the one paying, and didn’t object, you have no reason to be upset.”
Phoenix Palace had powerful backing. The Madam spoke bluntly, showing Lin Yang little respect, with a hint of disdain in her words.
“What did you say? Is this how you speak to guests?”
Zheng Nanxu’s face darkened and he rebuked her at once.
“Mr. Zheng, please calm down. I’m just stating facts. Your friend doesn’t know how things work here, so I felt obliged to remind him.” The Madam said.
“Enough, just be quiet.”
Zheng Nanxu understood that the Madams at Phoenix Palace appeared friendly, but were proud at heart. Unless one was a distinguished guest, their warmth was only skin-deep.
Zheng Nanxu quickly explained to Lin Yang that the one who took Xinxin away was Wang Shenglan, the son of the vice president of the Marriott Chamber of Commerce—not someone to offend.
Moreover, Zheng Nanxu’s company had business dealings with a subsidiary under Vice President Wang. As a client, Wang was essentially his benefactor, so Zheng Nanxu didn’t dare cause trouble and could only swallow his pride.
“Sorry, Brother Yang. I’ll ask the Madam to arrange two others for you. You can take them out for fun, and all expenses are on me.”
Zheng Nanxu apologized sincerely.
Hearing Zheng Nanxu’s explanation, Lin Yang didn’t want to embarrass his friend and smiled, “We’re brothers—no need for that. I still have Vivi here. It’s fine.”
“Show Brother Yang a good time,” Zheng Nanxu said to Vivi.
Vivi had no choice but to accompany Lin Yang with drinks, but remained stiff and silent, nothing like a typical hostess.
“Hurry up and find two others for Brother Yang. Look at her—does she seem fit for this job? Can’t you show some professionalism?”
“If you’re in this line of work, earning this money, you should take it seriously. If you can’t manage, then quit.”
Zheng Nanxu was actually quite annoyed. He’d wanted to give Lin Yang a good time, but the hostess was taken away mid-session, leaving him feeling embarrassed in front of his friend.
“Alright, I’ll arrange it right away.”
The Madam got up, glared at Vivi, planning to deal with her after work.
At that moment, the suite door suddenly opened, and Xinxin walked in.
“You’re back? Weren’t you with Young Master Wang?” The Madam asked.
Xinxin replied, “Mr. Zheng, Young Master Wang wants you to come over.”
Zheng Nanxu was taken aback. “Why does Young Master Wang want me?”
Zheng Nanxu knew his own standing. His small company wasn’t on Wang Shenglan’s radar—no one there would even look at him directly. Why would he be invited over for drinks?
“Young Master Wang’s suite has a guest who claims to be your classmate and is close with Young Master Wang. So he invited you to join them for drinks,” Xinxin explained.
“My classmate? Who?” Zheng Nanxu wondered.
“I don’t know. Mr. Zheng, you should hurry.” Xinxin urged.
Zheng Nanxu turned to Lin Yang. “Brother Yang, since it’s my classmate, it might be yours too. Let’s go over, toast a glass, and get acquainted with Young Master Wang—it’ll be good for us.”
“Let’s go.”
Lin Yang stood and said to Vivi, “You come with me.”
Vivi looked reluctant but, intimidated by Lin Yang’s gaze, obediently followed.
“Brother Yang, what do you even see in this girl? She’s pretty, sure, but in bed she’s like a dead fish—boring.”
Lin Yang smiled, “I’ve seen all kinds of alluring women. This girl, pure and gentle, has her own charm.”
Xinxin led the three quickly to another suite, knocked, and pushed open the door.
Inside were a dozen people, three men, and among them was indeed a classmate—Dou Jun.
“It’s Dou Jun.”
Zheng Nanxu’s expression changed slightly; Dou Jun and Lin Yang had quarreled in their group chat, so meeting would be awkward.
“Brother Yang, it’s Dou Jun.”
“What about Dou Jun? Are you afraid of him?” Lin Yang smiled.
“I’m not afraid, but you two have conflicts, right? I’m worried he’ll stir up trouble,” Zheng Nanxu said anxiously.
“It doesn’t matter.”
Lin Yang replied calmly.
Dou Jun had already seen Zheng Nanxu and Lin Yang, and immediately wore a malicious smile.
“Well, isn’t this a narrow road for enemies? Lin Yang, you’re still not beaten to death?”
Dou Jun mocked.
“If you died, I’d still be alive,” Lin Yang retorted.
Dou Jun’s face darkened, but he quickly suppressed his anger, sneering inwardly, “Lin Yang, just wait—I’ll ruin you tonight.”
Wang Shenglan asked, “Dou Jun, these two are your classmates?”
“Yes, Young Master Wang. Let me introduce them.”
Dou Jun stood, first introducing Zheng Nanxu, “Young Master Wang, I hear Zheng Nanxu’s company works with yours. Please look after him.”
“Since you ask, it’s no problem.”
Wang Shenglan nodded slightly.
Zheng Nanxu hurriedly raised his glass, respectfully, “Thank you, Young Master Wang.”
“No need to thank me. If anyone deserves thanks, it’s Dou Jun. He’s my friend. If not for him, your little company wouldn’t even catch my notice.”
Wang Shenglan didn’t even raise his glass, maintaining a lofty air.
“Yes, yes.”
Zheng Nanxu quickly thanked Dou Jun, who waved him off. “No need to thank me yet. Let me give a grand introduction to this person.”
