The three of them arrived at the underground parking lot. Lin Yang said, “Nan Xu, you go on ahead. I’ve got something else to take care of.”

“Got it! Don’t overdo it, take care of yourself,” Zheng Nanxu replied with a mischievous grin at Lin Yang, not asking any more questions before opening his car door and driving off.

“Wait a second, what does your company mainly do now?” Lin Yang called after him.

“Industrial design, just a small firm, nothing big.”

“All right, I see.” Lin Yang didn’t have many friends; Zheng Nanxu was a loyal brother to him, so naturally, he would help if he could.

After Zheng Nanxu left, Lin Yang got into his car with Vivi.

“Now tell me, how did you end up working as a hostess here? Do you even know what kind of place this is?” Lin Yang’s tone was stern.

“I…” Vivi hung her head, visibly troubled.

Her real name was Shen Youwei, and she had known Lin Yang since childhood. Her father, Shen Limin, had been Lin Yang’s father’s driver for twenty years—a man Lin Haoxuan had trusted deeply. Her mother also worked as a housekeeper for the Lin family, always diligent and conscientious.

Two years ago, a car accident left Shen Limin with both legs broken. Before dying, Lin Haoxuan had instructed Qin Monong to give the Shen family three million, enough for them to live comfortably. Whether Qin Monong had ever delivered the money, Lin Yang didn’t know. But given that woman’s cunning and cruelty, Lin Yang suspected she’d kept it for herself.

“How are Uncle Shen and Aunt Liu now? Are they in good health?” Lin Yang’s tone softened as he took in Shen Youwei’s pitiful state. He remembered that she used to be lively and full of mischief; now, she was so quiet, so withdrawn.

“After the accident, my father’s health never recovered—he’s been on medication ever since. Half a year ago, my mother was diagnosed with kidney failure. We’ve run out of money, sold the house. If I don’t earn, the hospital will kick her out,” Shen Youwei choked out, her tears falling.

Lin Yang gently patted her shoulder. “Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, Aunt Liu’s illness can be cured.”

He silently cursed Qin Monong for being heartless and selfish, pocketing the money and forcing Shen Youwei to make a living in a place like Phoenix Palace.

“It’s no use. My mother’s blood type is very rare. It’s almost impossible to find a match for a transplant.”

“No need for a transplant. Tomorrow morning, I’ll go to the hospital with you. For now, I’ll take you home and visit your father.”

For a medical genius like him, kidney failure was nothing serious.

“No! I can’t go home dressed like this. If my father saw me, it’d kill him!” Shen Youwei protested.

“Then should I drop you off at your school?”

Shen Youwei was a junior at Luocheng Normal University.

“It’s so late; the dorms are already closed.”

“So, do you want to stay at a hotel, or come home with me?” Lin Yang asked.

Without hesitation, Shen Youwei answered, “I’ll go home with you.”

“All right.”

“Are you waiting for someone else?” Shen Youwei noticed that Lin Yang hadn’t started the car, as if he were waiting.

“To save someone,” Lin Yang replied.

“Who?” Shen Youwei asked.

“The hostesses from the private room.”

“You’re taking them all home?” Shen Youwei was surprised.

Lin Yang tapped her forehead. “What are you thinking? Do you take me for some old lecher? They witnessed Wang Shenglan and the others being humiliated. They might be silenced.”

“What?” Shen Youwei’s face turned pale. “You mean, they might be killed?”

“What do you think? You’ve got guts to work in a place like this. If things go wrong, people die,” Lin Yang scolded.

Shen Youwei was truly frightened. “I had no choice. A classmate introduced me—said the money was good here.”

“If you ever need money, just come to me.”

“I tried, but I couldn’t find you. I even went to your house in secret, but no one lived there anymore. I heard you became a drug addict, gambled away your fortune, and disappeared.”

When she’d first seen Lin Yang in the private room, she had indeed been afraid. After all, who would willingly get involved with a junkie or a gambling loser?

“Silly girl, I’ve always treated you like my own sister. Don’t you know what kind of person I am? How could you believe such rumors so easily?” Lin Yang pinched her cheeks and scolded her deliberately.

“I was wrong, Lin Yang! That hurts!” Shen Youwei pleaded for mercy.

After Lin Yang let go, Shen Youwei said, “You disappeared for over two years—how could people not wonder?”

At that moment, Lin Yang saw by the freight elevator a group of Phoenix Palace’s bodyguards carrying sacks—obviously with people inside.

“Wait here in the car,” Lin Yang told her.

He got out and walked calmly toward the freight elevator. The bodyguards tossed the sacks into a van. Without a word, Lin Yang knocked out the bodyguards in a few swift moves, untied the sacks, and woke the women inside.

“Mr. Lin… it’s you?” Xinxin exclaimed in shock, still trembling with fear.

“Listen carefully. I will only save you this once. If you need to run, now’s the time,” Lin Yang said coldly.

“Thank you, Mr. Lin! Thank you for saving our lives!” The matron led the girls in bowing their heads in gratitude.

Of them all, only Xinxin had had more contact with Lin Yang.

“Mr. Lin, thank you for saving us despite everything. I was blind before, please forgive me,” Xinxin said sincerely, kneeling to thank him.

Lin Yang ignored her and left with his hands behind his back.

He drove out of the Phoenix Palace parking lot, heading toward Imperial Garden.

“Lin Yang, why did you save them? In the private room, they fawned over Wang Shenglan and looked down on you. They brought this on themselves,” Shen Youwei remarked.

Lin Yang smiled. “Do you think I shouldn’t have saved them?”

“That’s not what I mean. It’s just, if it were anyone else, they’d probably just gloat and never lend a hand. You’re still the same as always—kind at heart,” Shen Youwei said happily.

Lin Yang only smiled. When it came to his enemies, he could be ruthless. But for those unrelated, if he could save them, he would. A healer should have compassion.

Back at Imperial Garden, Shen Youwei looked at the familiar garden—once, she had thought of this place as home.

“It’s just like before,” she said.

“The garden’s the same, but the interior’s been renovated. The rooms are all empty. You can stay in your old room on the second floor,” Lin Yang replied.

She had her own spacious room here, while her parents had lived on the first floor.

“Lin Yang, do you live here alone now?” she asked.

“Yes, I like the peace and quiet.”

“Who cooks and does the laundry for you? I remember you can’t cook,” she teased.

“I order takeout, or eat out,” Lin Yang replied.

“Takeout isn’t healthy. If you don’t mind, I’ll come by and cook for you when I’m free,” she volunteered.

Lin Yang quickly shook his head. “Like you cook any better than me! Don’t poison me with your culinary disasters. I’ll stick to takeout.”
